View Full Version : Lag Bolt anchors

All, I was given many lag anchors by our warehouse as the maintenance techs at work where not using the type with a hard threaded insert and a soft anchor.
I seperated the two parts and sent the obviously zinc containing inserts to recycling.
Being of an inquisitve mind I took half of the anchors to my lead processing center and tested for BHN; they came out to a BHN of 8 and produced well filled out and sharp boolits.
I just made over 350 Lee SWC-105grn boolits and with a little enrichemnt form some "Rotometals" antimony rich lead and a couple of ingots of WW metal came out with a hardness of BHN 17.YMMV
Please do not overlook this gift horse if you run across some anchors.

Shoulda brought that zinc to the scrapper's and traded for lead.

YUP! Used to do that trick for quite afew years when I was in the construction trade with the scrap anchors that were always in the bottom of the box they came in.Robert
