I'm a newbie to the site, been lurking for a bit. Just got a new CVA .50 Optima V2 Pistol and want to see what cast boolits will work best. I plan on using Blackhorn 209 powder, and will pickup some off the shelf bullet sabot packs as well. I'd like to try my hand at casting, but before adding a new hobby to the mix and ordering a mold or two. Would like to try some to see if the pistol likes them or not.
Was wondering if anybody has any they cast from: Lee Mold D C 50 cal 250, Lee Mold D C .456 220, Lee .50 320 Real,Lee 500-360M Minnie Ball? Or anything that you might think would work. Deer hunting up to 75 yards, longest area available to me.
Thanking you all in advance,
Cashew

pistols are diff. than rifles but you still want to shoot to 75 yards. it would be better if it had a slower twist than 1/28. a sabot with a .451 or .452 cast 300 grain bullet should be accurate. a 550 grain .50 cal cast bullet would be accurate but too much recoil for that gun. you might even want to try a .495 patched roundball with 50 grains of blackhorn 209 powder. dont use the weaker 209 primers that are marked muzzleloader. you want the full strength shotgun 209 primers so you can try and burn all the powder before the bullet leave the barrel.their has to be a happy center some where for accracy and power but finding it may or may not be diff. if your going to shoot sabots mmp sabots on the internet are very good and reasonable. they pay the shipping. also they have a .50 cal sabot that may be just the thing for you. it shoots a .458 45/70 bullet. a 400 grain .458 cast , grooved bullet would be very accurate in your gun. keep the powder down but you should be able to get 1100 ft per sec. with a 400 grain bullet and that is very good for hunting. i my self just bought a bulk of 500 sabots like these from mmp and in bulk they give a 20 percent discount. 45.70 400 grain moulds arent hard to find and fairly reasonable. good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I appreciate the info and will keep informed. Just seated the BH 209 breech plug and mounted a BSA 2-7x32 Scope, will see how it all works out. Getting over pneumonia so might be another week before I get out to the range.

Where in Michigan? I might be able to set you up with a few different weights of .452 to use with sabots.

I have most of those and could get you some bullets I really don't think your going to get reals into a pistol depending on bore size i guess you really have to force them down the rifling is cutting into them as they go shoot me a pm if you want to get some boxed up
