Bought a Weigland base for the 686 and put an old Tasco red dot on it. 10 shots 30 yards 13 gr. 2400 the Lee boolit with one of Sage Outdoors plain base gas checks. Just a sand bag on the truck for support. The flier was # 3 and it was me not the gun or load. I'm pretty happy with that. Not sure how high I should be at 25-30 yards for a 50 yard zero. But I'll find out.

With the scope that high above the bore pretty much dead on at 25 yards will give you a 50+ yard zero.

I have same exact setup s&w 686 weigland base and tasco red dot scope. mine shoots good at 25 yards about the same groups as what your showing , I haven't had a chance to try it at 50 yet though .I wonder how that 13 gr of 2400 load would be with a lee bullet without a gas check ??

Is that lee 158 gr TL swc ? I can't find a load for that boolit that will stay on a plate at 50ft using titegroup. I may have to try 2400, it's what I usually use in heavy loads oops didn't see you were using gas checks will have to finish my check maker before I can try it.

Good shooting. A red dot does help, but consider changing that absolutely humongous thing to something much smaller like a Burris Fastfire or something similar.

As it is, it looks like the gun is hanging under the giant aluminum red dot scope like a biplane tethered to a zeppelin (think Harrison Ford versus the Nazis in the Indiana Jones movie series). A regular rifle looks a lot more handy than that combo.

I'll get something smaller, just had that around. I couldn't shoot 6 in groups at 25 yards with the iron sights. If I remember correctly this red dot has a 6 moa dot. Looking for something with a 2 or 3 MOA. My handgun background is in USPSA.
