Picked up a bit over 200 lbs of linotype today for $0.50 per pound and some of the ingots that they use to refresh the linotype for $2.22 per pound. I'm thinking that the refresher metal is at least 50% tin. It says "Castomatic" in the center and "Federated" on each side of it. Each bar was 9 lbs and could be broken into 3 ingots.

I think that was a good deal so gloating is authorized... :)

Is there a scrap yard around you with an XRF tool? It would be worth several dollars to know the specific composition of the make up metal and some samples of the linotype.

It was an old print shop that had recently sold their linotype machine for scrap metal. Which was probably a shame since there is probably a collector somewhere that would have liked to acquire it. The linotype was still in the type format instead of ingots and they said that the refresher metal was used when the linotype machine was starting to not cast as well anymore, so I'm thinking that it is high tin content.

I can't beat 200 pounds of lino for 50 cents but you only have 200 pounds.
I bought a 1200 pound barrel of lead and got 500 pounds of lino plus 40 pounds of tin solder all for $0.75.
I don't know if this out gloats you or not but I like it.
Not only that, I got the barrel to boot.
