Does anyone know where to get some good Pecans? I like pecan pies and also pecans in; cookies, brownies, and muffins.

I have a disabled viet nam vet friend that has been harvesting pecans from his yard and bagging the meats. He did have about 75 lbs left and he is still working on them. I believe he is getting 7.00 a lb for them. If anybody is interested I can put you in touch with him. Just pm me.

If Flounderman's friend can't help you out you can try here: http://www.mineolapecanhouse.com/

I've bought from them in the past and they have wonderful products and reasonable prices (I'm no expert on pecan prices by any means).

I love their Praline Pecans

These are of first quality, North Carolina pecans, we keep stocked up on them: http://www.ncagr.gov/ncproducts/ShowSite.asp?ID=1620

I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, we had 110 pecan trees in our back yard. Stuart, Success, had a a Mahan tree, so I know good pecans when I see/eat them and the NC pecans in the link are very good. A bit pricey but excellent taste and size..

Buy all the pecans from them you want, but do not try any of their roast pecan flavored coffee. I'm keeping all of that for myself!

Anne and Karen are good people. They are a family run business that I have dealt with for more than a decade and I can heartily endorse them.

I get mine at the local Southern States store in Stephens City, Va, where i get my LP. The had a 4'X4'X4' box of them last fall. I got about 10lbs of them. Eat a few, as the mood strikes me. Probably a bit out of the way for you, though. :-D

For best flavor I prefer native pecans. The small nuts can be a pain to get the meats out. The old Burkett is a sport of a native that is improved but retains excellent flavor. We have not had sufficient rain for decent pecans in a few years now.

The natives are good but you really have to work to get the out of the shell. I lived in Abilene for 3 years and the Burkett variety did well there and I would buy the Burkett over others because of the flavor and ease of shelling. The climate where I live now is not good for the Burkett so I had to plant varieties that grow good here. We have not had really good pecan crops for awhile now. I was buying feed this week and they had shelled pecans for $12.99 per pound. We didn't have our pecan pie for thanksgiving this year. Maybe next year will be a better year for pecans.
