do you take the shoot sparingly approach to keep it in fresh newer condition, or shoot 1000 rounds for confidence and prove reliability

I shoot my carry gun quite a bit. About every other time I go to the range.

I don't usually carry if I did it would be shot a lot if its the type of gun that might take some wear all the better reason to load some cast and a practice load

Darn near every time I go to the range...even if it's just to empty the loads in the cylinder and the two speedloaders I normally carry. BTW: my "carry' is a 3" SP-101 that I'm not in the least concerned with keeping in a 'fresh, newer condition.' No idea how many rounds I've put through it, but I've had the gun for around 10 years and never shoot less than 100 rounds at a full-blown practice session...without a single mechanical failure!

I shoot whatever gun I'm carrying at the time when I go to the range, mostly it's a Kel-Tec PF9 or P32. My centerfire handguns shoot nothing but my pet reloads with boolits.

Don't usually carry a revolver, but I shoot my semi-auto carry handgun pretty much every time I go to the range, assuming I have enough ammo to reload it prior to leaving the range. These days, my target ammo is usually the same as my self-defense ammo -- 10mm, Lee TL401-175-SWC with 6.1 gr of Red Dot (approx 550 ft-lbs).

I wish I could say every time I go to the range, but it's more like every other time. As to keeping it in good condition, if you mean functional and working well, then absolutely, but I USE my carry guns, cause I figure if or when I need to use them, lives depend on it. I have worn out guns before, and am doing my best to wear out my current ones. However, I have almost 85K rounds through my 1911 that I bought new, close to 100K through my Ruger Security Six that I bought used (so have no idea how many rounds went through it before I bought it), and about 3K through my SP101 (haven't had it long yet). I usually fire 50-100 rounds through my carry guns every other time I go to the range, and also take whatever else I feel like playing with.

Weekly for sure. I feel a carry gun should be an extension of you. The more you fire it the more comfortable you are with it. If I wear it out, I will buy another. No big deal. I do from time to time switch carry guns. I fire them all on a regular basis. My mp9-c has recently been replaced with my model 357 .41 mag. I still shoot the 9-C regularly though.
I have shot my Ruger .380 ACP,LCP enuf to know of it's reliability. Since it was designed for "close social work" and ease of carry, I don't shoot it as much as I prolly ought to, but I'm sure I could hit what I need to if the time arises.

I shoot my NAA Mini-Mag about four times a year at the range. I run about 150 rounds a month through my S&W Model 36.
I shoot mine at least once every time someone throws popcorn in my face.

I shoot mine as often as I can. At a minimum, I like to shoot at least once a month if not more often - it doesn't always work out that way but I'm a firm believer if you don't practice and stay familiar with your "carry piece" . . . it just might come back to "haunt you", God forbid, if you should ever need it.

Half a dozen times a year... about every other trip to the range. I shoot my larger revolvers a couple times a month. Usually at one competition or another.

My carry is a 1911, not a revolver and I shoot it weekly if not more often. Accurate shooting is a perishable skill that must be refreshed on a regular basis. As Kweidner put it, your carry should be an extension of your arm and you should feel that comfortable with it.

Hi...
I typically carry one of two 1911s in .45ACP...they get shot every trip to the range, every two weeks or more often during the shooting season.
I do carry a Taurus .44Special now and then, as well as one of two Colt Troopers in .357Mag. All get shot regularly, at least once a month.
Pretty much all of my handguns get regular workouts. either by me or my son. Which is why I spend all my spare time cleaning guns and reloading ammunition.

I carry a variety of guns from a 380 or 9mm pocket gun to .45acp auto & revolver & shoot them all frequently & the most carried 45s all the time. At least 50 rds ea. practice with what you carry & do lots of different exercises from point shooting to multiple & moving targets.
