I was wondering if any of you guys have experience with 280/300 grain cast from a 4 " S&W 624 4" barrel?
(I know, 624 is 44 special and 629 is 44special/44Mag.)

If so, can you tell me velocities/accuracy/everything you know to your hearts content, I really mean it!
Keep in mind that I am only intereted in those who have a lot of experience with the S&W 624 4".

Well, I will tell you right off the top, my revolver is a M24, 3 inch gun. I ran a couople hundred rounds of 290 or 300 gr bullets through it and gave it up as a bad job. My gun shot incredibly high with the rear sight screwed down to the bottom. Groups were so so and recoil was smart. I have a 250 grain Lyman mould for a Keith type bullet that is far more effective.

I tried a few 310 grain boolits in mine, back when I had it. My experience mirrored that of Mr. Cash. Groups were "meh" and it printed like a foot high at 25 yards. Velocities were low, I mean like tobacco-spitting contest low, somewhere under 600 fps with 5.0 grains of Unique. I sold the gun to a friend who wanted it a lot more than I did at that point, before doing much experimentation. But I don't think I could have managed to center the sights unless I put a new front sight on. It did better with the RCBS 250 grain SWC, though I did not own it long enough to really ring it out.

I tried a 300 WFN in mine and it would start tumbling/flying erratic at about 50 yds, gave up and went to the 250 keith style and shooting great so far....

In a 44 special, I've tried 7.5 grains of Bluedot with a 320 grain flat point. I was shooting a Taurus 441 - 3" barrel. No pressure signs, medium-heavy recoil. A 5 shot group at 25 yds. was 3"x4" and it was fun.
