Hi all,
This is my first post on here, and firstly, thanks for making so much information available. I've been lurking around for the past 6 months, picking up an astounding amount of knowledge that without would have made my forays into casting so much more difficult.

Now, I've been casting and loading .45acp for my modified no4mk1, no dramas.
My k31, using the info from C.E. Harris' article, again, no real dramas, and the same again with my Rem700 in .300blkout.

Now one of my mates wants to try his hand at casting and loading for his Remington 7600 in .308win.
The plan is to start him off with the same boolit I use in my blackout, a 309-180GC from Cast Bullet Engineering
http://www.castbulletengineering.com/page0051.html update #14)
my question is; going by the hodgden 60% rule, max load for a 180gr projectile is 42.5gr of ADI AR22064/ Hodgden 4895, 60% of which is 25.5gr for a starting point.

So, my question is this, am I on the right track? Or have I made some horrible mistake somewhere?

Thanks heaps.

Do you have access to any other reloading manuals, like the Lyman?

Unfortunately, not yet. I've ordered a copy from the states, its still on its way.

I personally like 1.6cc of H4895, case filled to the bottom of the boolit with Cream of Wheat or used coffee grounds. Accurate, no leading, efficient burn characteristics, what's not to like?

You are definitely on the right track with H4895. 25 gr would be a very good starting load with that cast bullet. Work up in 1/2 gr increments to 30 gr. I also suggest a 1/2 gr Dacron filler. Accuracy will go south......oops....north in your case:roll: which is telling you enough is enough.
