Interesting mold for a .45-70 might be a nice mold for cat sneeze loads.

Yeah, that's an interesting mould. I have one and have some loaded in the .45/70 but haven't tried them yet. That's a pretty rare mould number from Lyman/Ideal and I anticipate that it will go for over $100./beagle
Somebody posted a picture of some made from a similar, much newer mold recently. They look really cool, but I bet it'll go for quite a pretty penny- it can be rough to catch a deal on fleabay sometimes.

The collar button mould was done by Mihec for a group buy not long ago. You might check the Mihec website to see if there are any left.
Personally I liked the original Lyman design better than the design used for the group buy. Not a huge difference but I like the Lyman original 457130 per your post better. Also, my use was for tube magazine so wanted a small flat point.
An alternative is to go to Accurate Molds website and pick one of his lightweight TC boolit designs. I asked Tom to scale down a .45 cal. to 0.434" for my .44 Marlin. The result is great. A nice lightweight 165 gr. plinker that shoots very well. Not quite as light as the collar button but very light for caliber.
Alternately, round ball does not bad with light loads.

Was done as a Lee GB some time ago, IIRC.

I also make a copy of the collar button bullet, mould number 458-130B.

Now that I like!
Do you make one in 0.434"? Like I need another mould! However...

Unfortunately, I don't, all my moulds are cherry cut... at the moment.

I have a six cavity GB from Lee. Works fine but I have not tried it in the 45-70 yet. I have used it in the 45 long Colt, 45 Schoffield and with a little sizing, the 44 Colt. With black powder and lube, it works well enough to meet my needs.

I actually don't recall it having the flat nose. Maybe that developed after I decided I was going another route.
Also, I didn't like the extremely large lube groove and subsequent small shank. Not a problem for very light loads but but you want to push it at all the shank may collapse or bend. I wanted a lightweight plinker but also possibly a "screamer".
I just preferred the original design better. In the end I got the lightweight TC mould from Accurate and am very happy with it so am good for now.

If I remember correctly Mihec used the same tool to cut both the .44 and .45 versions of this mold. That required running the cutter eccentrically and therefore the small flat was the result.
For me this mold is very difficult to cast ! The design results in bullets hanging up pretty badly and not releasing easily. A sharp wack on the handles is required to get them out of my mold.
I really like the bullet in .44 Special target loads but for me it is a pain to cast !

That NEI design looks pretty good though it is a bit heavier than the typical collar button. Not an issue in my view, 150 gr. is plenty light for .45 cal.
Personally, I like the original round lube groove like the Lyman 457130 and the NEI than the group buy version.
If you are looking for a good plinker, another option is Accurate Molds. Tom has some nice lightweight designs. My little 165 gr. mould casts beautifully.
Hmmmm, I wonder if Erik at Hollow Point Molds could reduce and radius that lube groove band. That should make the mould easier to cast with. It would cost a bit though.

I have a Walt made NEI mold. Three of them hit within 6" at 25yds when loaded three in one load.

You are correct.
and I have the same problem with mine in 45 cal.
They are still available from Miha I believe.
I'm glad he could make a few ( 2 I think) copies for 44 users and still do a couple dozen for those of use who wanted 45s.
But I wanted a copy of the Lyman boolit, that was why I started that buy.
Overruled by the majority however, (or at least the vocal minority.)

I have the Lee GB 45 collar button mould and it was definitely one of their better ones, performed well in my Trapdoor as I recall.
Must drag it out cast some more up and try it again.

I have the NEI mold(Walt made) and have been very happy with it. Lots of fun in the 45-70 and makes a nice plinker in the 458 also. Too much point to use in a tube magazine.
