Aperture sight on M67?

I have a model 67 that I would like to put a rear aperture sight on. I looked at Lyman 90 MJT
and Williams FS models, but don't know if they will fit. As the barrel and receiver are one piece
the sight has to mount ahead of the bolt. It's only .800 - .820 inch up there and the mounts I've seen are for 15/16 and 1 inch. I have a 17A front to put on, but won't until I get a rear to
work. This is for a mini - palma (200yd) and old eyes need help. Any ideas?

Okay, I went and looked at my Dad's Model 67A. You are right, there isn't a lot of barrel diameter to work with.

I have seen aperture sights from years ago that were said to fit the Winchester Model 67 series of rifles, but I do not where or how they attached. Plus I don't really think they were meant for target shooting with the frequent sight changes that are often necessary.

My idea is to find a target sight that will mount on a scope base, either the Williams' that mounts on a grooved receiver or one that will mount on a Weaver type base and drill and tap a couple of holes over that chamber for the base. If you have a milling machine, you could just cut the grooves for a 3/8" dove tail.

I don't have any idea how much you would have to relieve the stock for the sight; but if the line of sight gets too high, you will loose the cheek weld that is an often overlooked part of accurate shooting.

I haven't been able to find bases of small enough diameter. Williams may have something that would work, but can't find specs on individual bases. Custom fab is too much $$$.

Brownell's used to carry blank Weaver bases. IIRC they were 12" lengths of stock that you drilled and cut the cross slot on yourself. It seems like there were two diameters, one of around one inch and one smaller.

Give them a call; every time I called them they were very helpful, even if what I wanted to do would not work.

Why re-invent the wheel ?

The Winchester Model 68 is a Model 67 with a factory peep sight, so search for one of the peep sights (which replace the M67 rear sight) on fleabay and/or various parts vendors & swap it out.

I have a Win 69 with that sight. I really like it but suspect it may not have needed elevation adjustment to work at 200 yards with a Lyman 17. I was looking for one to put on a 67 I have , found several on flebay , 125$ !!!!!! and they sold ! I still use the factory supplieds on my 67s
