Will the Ultra-Dot work with the stock SRH rings? If so which model? And where can I find the best deal on one?

I have a 454c and this seems to be the scope that gets the best reviews from you guys.

Thanks and good shooting:Fire:

I use the 30 mm. The 1" works good on a friends gun but I don't know the measurement of that turret.
The 30 mm measures 1.805". Put your rings on the gun and measure between them. I think the 1" is the same.
The best deal is Ultra Dot West, they pay the shipping. Go online to look and buy.

I think the same UltraDot prices are charged at Larrysguns.com also with free shipping if over $100 and they all are. Larry Carter is the owner and he is a huge supporter of shooting sports.

I've got the Ultradot 25 in stock SRH rings and have shot about 2000 rounds of mid range loads through it so far. Other than the ring screws chewing up the frame a bit, no problems with the Ultradot. In order to get a better grip on scopes, some have resorted to lapping the rings (Sinclair makes a device) or going to aftermarket mounts and rings. With mid range loads that hasn't been a problem for me yet.

I have been looking at a Weigand base for the SRH and the ultra-dot but I have read bad things about the stock Ultra-dot rings being super easy to stip out. Does any one have experiance with the stock UD rings?

I have an Ultra Dot Match Dot on my Marlin 308 MX.I like it because it has four dot sizes an 11 or 12 intensity settings. You can make the dot suit your needs.Even without magnification you can shoot a small group by using the smaller dot.

Just went Thru it myself. The UD 4 is 30mm and the squarish body is 2.125" long whereas the between ring spacine of the SRH is 1.8something". Search of Ruger website failed to come up w/off-set rings in the 30mm size. So, I went w/the Weigand base w/weaver style rings.

I have the stock Ultra Dot rings on my 45-70 BFR. They hold fine.

The stock Ultradot rings are aluminum and don't take kindly to over tightening. I did overtighten mine and stripped one of the rings. But if 44man is having good luck with his, more power to him. If they hold up on the BFR, they must be fairly good rings. As I said, so far with the stock steel SRH rings, no problems in mounting an Ultradot 25, ring spacing is fine for that model.

Does any one have experiance with the stock UD rings?Since I'm getting no information about Pride Fowler's Rapid Reticle Special Ops Compact Sight, you and I are in a similar situation.

Jack Weigand makes two mounts for Ruger's Super Redhawk, SRH Plus (left) and SRH 454 (right). He informs me that to withstand recoil stress of .480 Ruger, I must use SRH 454 on the right.

I am not enthusiastic about aluminum mounts and rings. Does anyone manufacture a mount similar to SRH 454 on the right, with its three recoil anchor points, from steel, stainless steel, or titanium?

Who manufactures low steel 30 mm rings with four or six screws per ring?

Naphtali;
You will not have ANY problems with the SRH 454 base, on the right, regarding recoil. Removal of the rear sight and use of the sight recess for the recoil lug is a really good design feature. The design is more important than the material, in this case, as the notches in the frame only secure the base in place (recoil is handled by the lug on the rear). That is a GOOD base.

Thanks for starting this thread, guys. I have been agonizing over what red-dot to put on my SRH in .454. I have settled on an Ultra-Dot and Weigand base. I just ordered them both.:Fire:

I mounted the UD Match Dot on the SRH 454 using 30mm aluminum rings that wasn't as tall as the ones that came w/it. While not having used max loads yet, (still working up loads from data) I've not had a problem. In fact haven't had a problem w/slippage since I started lining the rings w/scotch transparent/cello tape some yrs (25/30yrs?) ago. And I no longer had to apply a lot of torque to the rings either. Haven't had to lap rings either altho I do have the wheeler kit (>13yrs)

Wes-
What color? I have Target Gray 1"
Also, I work in a gun shop- we have some extra Ruger rings and even some Millett rings for Ruger.
Kurt

EDIT- I should have read the first post a little more carefully! Target gray rings for a .454.
