This thread is dedicated to the nastiest pieces of brass that you have come across either as range pickups or having been spit out of your own gun.. My two best are these gems:
93366 45 acp with a wicked neck split
93367 40 s&w with a perfect case head separation

Go ahead and post them up!

I've come across hundreds of 40sw that has chambered and fired in a 45acp and not all have been fired on the same day. I've seen this multiple times over the last year. I'll see if they are still in the scrap bin and get a pic. I've also found 300win mag fired in either 300weatherby or ultra mag. Not sure which, but I get this in my range brass a few months before hunting season again several different times.

a friend of mine told me he once fired a .308 win in a 30-06 rifle by mistake. He didn't realize it until he ejected the empty, and looked at it. His first thought was that the neck had separated. Chamber was clear, so then he looked at the headstamp, and figured out what happened. That bullet sure had to have long legs to make that jump.

44 Mag fired in a 45 colt chamber and a 308 fired in a 308 Norma Mag chamber.

To the right of each a sample of what the case should look like.

I went out shooting with a co-worker awhile and he brought his 40 along with his 9mm carbine. I had some other stuff. When we finished up and was picking up brass and found one 9mm casing completely stretched out at the mouth. I think he accidently fed a 9mm through his .40. He said he wasn't sure if he did, but I took it home and it matched up perfectly to the dia of a 40 casing. I was kind of shocked. Glad no one was hurt. I have the case still. I'm just lazy and don't want to go about taking a picture and getting it on here.

Not a case so much - I relegate the suspicious ones to low level loads. I was annoyed with these Federal Match Small Pistol primers. They were all I could get at the time and didn't get along well with a Contender as over 70 per cent burned through. They've been ok in lesser frames.

I've found .303 Savage fired in a .303 British, and 8mm Mauser fired in a 30-06. Somewhere I have a 7.62 NATO case that fully separated across the web into the primer pocket (Israeli TZ 80).

Been there, done that. All I have to say is don't let friends load the magazines unsupervised. It was my Uncle's Glock and it would fail to extract. Took four shots to figure out what was going on. That's what we get for shooting in the dark. The cases didn't split but they sure didn't want to come out of the chamber.

I never take pics of damaged brass. I just toss it in the scrap bucket. Some of the rifle cases I've picked up have almost broken the heads off by hand. The separation ring was so aparent that I can't believe anyone fired them to begin with.

I have a section of my tool box where I store oddities from other people's problems. One is the top 1/2 of a 22LR case that separated and remained in a rifle chamber. Also the top half of a 38 Special, same story, recovered from a revolver. The wildest is a .270 case where that cartridge was fired in a rifle that was chambered 7mm Remington Magnum. The brass puked out in every direction. No pics, sorry, I am not that high speed.

Jumpin Jehosephat!! That is a very scary lineup of near death expereinces. I would be looking over my shoulder at the range to see who is next to me......

The best or worst example that I have is a full box (20 rds) of 300 win, fired in a 300 Weatherby. They look like overgrown belted Mashburn Bees.

While I would not recommend it I don't think that is unsafe. I have fireformed more radical combinations.

I also picked up some 9mm w/big ol'guppie bellies. I think the 9x19s went through a 9x18 Makarov.

IF they fed and fired... (unlikely) I doubt the difference in chamber size would be that noticeable.

Definitely noticeable through a .40, though.

This is a 30-06 with a serious headspace issue. No it is not mine.

Ugliest brass I have is a handful of 30-06 brass with folded down case mouths due poor piloting into a Lyman M die:(
