Now that I've got your attention: :-)

I'm trying to find a load for my 500 S&W rifle, 440 grain cast, with IMR 7383 SURPLUS powder.

I've seen loads listed for 45 colt (highly compressed, ruger only) and 454 casull (not compressed, light pressure) on CASTPICS (link at bottom of page), but would like a sanity check before I start. Can I load this to 100% density with this combo? Any advice?

Thanks!

I assume you know what you're playin' with,,,right ?

100% density ? If you've read the above linked thread and understand that it acts different than any other reloading powders, then you could probably assume that the John Ross technique of using a case full of medium burn rate rifle powder probably won't work.

I'd follow wiljen's advice, if I were to work up a load. BUT WHERE TO START ??? that's the question.

Thanks JonB! Yep, well aware and I'm familiar with how it works in the 7.62x54R. I figured the 500 S&W has enough case capacity for it to work there as well, but we'll see.

And yes! WHERE TO START IS THE REAL QUESTION.

I shot a bunch of 500 today but not with that powder. Some of my loads are wild and most are mild. A 500 round just needs to touch a deer and it will die. LoL

Pushing A 330 grain LFN or 350 grain LFN gas checked.

If there is any way I can help you with loads please feel free to ask.
