I have both the black moly and alox lubes, Lyman brand. Would either of these be good for 1800-2000 fps with No. 2 alloy in my 375 H&H. ? I'm still learning & making mistakes. Thanks for the help. Joe

Use the Alox

As so eloquently stated by btroj:wink: , use the alox.

I've been using the NRA 50/50 lube (Javelina, Tamarack; both no longer made) for many, many years at much higher velocities with no leading and excellent accuracy. Lar's 50/50 is very good as is 2500+ lube (see add below; LsStuff.com) and I highly recommend them. Here is a 10 shot group at 100 yards I shot a couple days ago with a 311466 lubed with Tamarack or 2500+ at 2614 fps out of my 14" twist .308W Palma rifle. The softer lubes work fine.

Wow, great shooting, Larry! Have you tried this combination at any further distances yet?

One thing about Larry that folks need to understand is he shows his results; he doesn't just talk about them. Fine shooting Larry.

Here was 100, 200 and 300 yards a few days before. Had a slight wind out of 7 - 9 o'clock and it started collecting it's dues at 200 and particularly 300 yards.

Now Larry is just showing off.....

Nice groups Larry. Those are with irons, aren't they? A Palma rifle doesn't need a scope.

I could probably do as well with the Palma match sights, at least back when I was competing, but in this case the rifle has an original Weaver T-16 on it.

Say what....me show off:guntootsmiley:

A good shot with irons is as good as a scope

Well all this lube stuff is confusing, so I just ordered 3 pounds of the 2500 plus, so I can shoot like Larry. lol

Ok, so which lube is it that will make me good looking and make me shoot like Larry? And don't tell me it was deleted!

Larry doesn't shoot that well because of a lube. He shoots that well because he was shooting a well built rifle with good bullets AND most of all, he can shoot!

The fact he uses Alox/beeswax is besides the point. Yuck

The fact he uses Alox/beeswax is besides the point.

Yeah, I know that is pretty boring to all who want to make their own but it ain't broke and it works. I have made some 50/50 made with beeswax, a small amount of micro-crystalline wax and alox 606 (still available). So far I have put 100 rounds each with bullets lubed with it through my 44-40 and 45 colt revolvers and 50 through the Uberti M73 45 Colt with zero leading. Haven't tried it in anything faster....yet. Doubt if I'll be making much lube for myself as I don't consider commercial lubes as "expensive" (Lar's especially). Just made this batch because I was given the alox 606. I do make my own BP lube though which is why I also already had the beeswax.

For all my cast bullet shooting from 300 fps to 3000 fps I have not had any lube perform any better than the NRA 50/50 or 2500+. Yup, pretty boring.........

I would use Alox more if the smell didn't irritate my nose so much. My father in law uses it a bunch and I can sure smell it every time he pulls the trigger. I just detest that odor.

Face it Larry, a good rifle and shooter can make almost any lube look good. Just the same as a bad shot can make even the best rifle and lube look bad. In the end the guy behind the rifle matters most.

Larry, how do you think Lars 2500+ compares to his 2700 lube?
