Just happen to have a small batch handy. Pure or near pure lead. Three drive bands. I would imagine some variations depending on measuring error, slight differences of alloy or mold differences by maybe .001-.002".
Bottom- .454
Middle-- .459
Top----- .466

thank you sir. i have been playing with round ball loads in a 45-70 and have not had good luck. i was wondering if this boolit would work as a light small game load in the 45- 70. (i know wrong forum for continued discussion) but again thank you

LEE used to make a 44cal REAL bullet and the dimensions fit perfectly into a Remington Cap&Ball. I have that mold. The 45cal is too big in diameter. One drawback is you need to have HOT lead in your pot because if the driving bands are not fully filled the bullet will migrate under recoil in adjacent chambers. The largest/top driving bans of the 44 REAL is somethink like .455. They typically drop into the chamber to the 2nd or 3rd driving band.

The 45 real is great in my old army.a buddy has a 44 c-b and I was thinking of sizing them in a lee die to .454.dies this make sense?

If you size them to .454 then they may not center well over the chamber mouth. If he has a Euroarms Remington, that might work as they have beveled chamber mouths.

I bet those REALs would be impressive pushed out a Walker with a full charge.

It seems that the point of the thread has been lost. He is looking for something for small game loads in a 45-70.

You could try some RBs to see how they do.
