I have 2 Swiss Vetterlis that I converted to centerfire (.41). One of them came with a box of original ammo. I pulled one bullet, weighed and measured it and the powder. I contacted a well known mold maker but making one mold at a time might not be feasible.
Anyways, does anyone know where I could get a mold made? Is it something a do-it-yourselfer could do?
In the pic is the bullet next to the .429 I've been using (black powder).
The original bullet is hollow based, 1" long, .430" at its widest, .390 at its base. It weighs approx. .300 grs.
The powder is 15.4 grs, very fine.
The overall length of the cartridge is 2.2". The case is 1.525". This would be a great bullet to shoot.

Would you post a closer pic of the original bullet please. I think Accurate molds has the bullet in your pic but I need a up close picture of it.

I just had a mold cut for the swiss by bernie at old west bullet molds.
It is a round nose heeled design based off an origonal military cartridge .
The price was great and service spectacular .
If you want to take a look i have a thread started in molds maintenence nand design titled ...merry christmas to me . There is a pic of the mold and bullets from it.

Close-up pic.
stephenj - I'm still looking for your post and pic.
Just found it - great looking bullets. I'll contact them.
Looks like Accurate Molds might have it, too.

If you are not in a hurry to order a mold i have a new set of handles coming next week
And i would be happy to cast up a few and send you some to try before you buy.
Although i doubt you could go wrong with either mold

I've been shooting the .429 and .430 bullets with good results, but a longer bullet would make loading easier - I could shorten the case length. Let me know when you have a few bullets to spare - I'll pay shipping.
Thanks.

It shouldnt be any problems to get you some made around the end of the week.

As to case lenght mine seems to work best at 1.490 as to working properly in the elevator.

With the shorter bullets, I've been making the cases right around 1.70", which brings the overall length up to the necessary 2.2" for the mag. Or I just shoot shorter cartridges one at a time. Do you use black powder or smokeless?

Both ..I use black ... when i have it . I only allow myself 1 case a year and for some reason it disapears rather quickly.
For smokeless i use 2400 ...11grains works well in my rifle with about any bullet and is a nice soft load
