I want to start reloading for my SKS but I need 7.62 x 39 brass. I have a handful but not enough to justify buying a mold and dies.
Anyone know who has some?

You may have to buy some brass cased factory stuff to get started:

This stuff looks to be "Pull Downs". 100 per bag. I'd buy at that price.

Why don't you put a WTB ad in the classifieds

Try loveslife here on the site. I think it was he that I got some of that brass from. Boxer primed.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to get the PMC so I can get 300 instead of 200 for $100.

Orisolo occasionally has it for a good price.

7.62x39 brass is neither common nor cheap...

I would look at former eastern block boxer ammo. Catch a sale and you cant buy new and reload it for the price.

I been getting PRVI ammo, Sellier-Bellot, and Fiochi ammo.
All of those are loaded boxer ammo, and for $11 a box you get to shoot it once , and have once fired brass.

Call a local indoor range/gunstore. That's where I get mine. Since they want to keep their steel backstop from getting chewed up by steel core or tungsten core ammo. So I think that anybody that shows up with an AK or an SKS, they either check their ammo and/or they force them to buy their brass cased, copper jacketed ammo.

All that said.... it is possible to reload steel cased ammo. Here is one video on YouTube:

The Midsouth Primed Pulldown deal is a good one. Otherwise Graf's (a sponsor of the site) has fairly routinely in recent months had Privi Partizan (PPU headstamp) new brass for $39.99/100. Their shipping fee is $7.95 per order.

I have found my Chinese SKS difficult to reload and shoot cast boolits;I haven't found a combination of bullet/powder that reliably cycles the action. Also,I have a high loss rate with ejected brass. My Bulgarian AK style rifle does much better with cast, but I still have a high loss rate with brass. You may want to go easy on the investment and do some research before taking on your challenge. This is one of those rare exceptions where factory ammo is more economical for me.

I could not find any 7.62 x 39 brass in the UK AT ALL!! , luckily i went on holiday to new zealand and the round is becoming more popular over there so there was a vast supply of brass and heads which i bought up and brought back to the UK

Not about the brass, but a question on the rifle. Is that a "D" model that takes AK mags, or just an aftermarket SKS 30 rounder? If its the D model, that's a nice one. Been many moons since I saw one in the wild.

I'm not sure what a D model is. I got a couple of these a long time ago

............Always nice to buy brass when everyone has it and it's ALWAYS on sale someplace :-) A few years ago, and maybe more then a few, but IIRC Graf had K-P (Kaltron-Pettibone) Headstamped (made by Lapua) 7.62x39 brass at some ridiculous cheap price. I want to say something like $18/100? I may have just had a Romanian SKS at that time. I have a Yugo SKS and a small ring Mauser chambered to it now, but in the intervening years range pickup brass kept pace with needs.

If that's a pic of his rifle then it is a Type D, or M. The 30 round slip in mag doesn't use the AK mag lever style that pic has.

At least it looks like my Type D.

The other way to tell is the bolt carrier doesn't have the stripper clip guild milled in to the front. Hard to see on this pic.

Anyways, to the OP, the type D and M SKS didn't use the standard ten round on board magazine. It was converted in China to use a standard AK 47 mag. Interesting fact: they got the idea to do it after seeing rifles converted here in MI.

You should look into reloading berdans. You don't even need to use steel cases, if you put out a want to buy, there is usually always someone who will give you there brass cased yugo stuff that they were going to scrap anyways.

It does use the 30 round AK mags. I will get some closer pix soon.

This may be more than you want, but the brass I got ahold of is excellent. Have to wait till they have it again...
