Identification help.

A guy gave me these a couple years ago. I don't want to melt them until I have some clue what they are. They're very soft. I'm leery because they guy who gave them to me used to cast his own sinkers for shark fishing and he told me he melted down batteries to do it. He laughed at me when I told him I didn't want anything to do with used batteries. Thanks in advance for help.

If that's all you have, and are concerned about health issues or whatever, I think I would just pitch them.

If you have several hundred lbs, then head to the scrap yard with them and work a trade for lead from non-battery sources.
