I was wondering how hard it would be to convert the Mosin bolt face to .45 ACP? I've been wanting top build a .45 on a Mauser 93 and can't find one. Sure if I wanted to buy a nice rifle and butcher it I could. I just don't want to go that route. So, I thought maybe a Mosin.

Hard - you'd be breaking new ground - you'd be working with that single stack magazine - The bolt face is too large
I have seen conversions of Mosin's posted to 444 marlin, 45-70 - someone in Finland even made a suppressed 44 Mag out of one, but I have not seen one in 45 ACP.

If you want a 45 ACP - you can use Rhineland or Special Interest Arms kits to convert Mauser or SMLE's - either is a better choice.

Personally I went with Mk4 conversion from SIA

They made them in 3006, so the bolt head can be welded up for the case.

I just thought of a Mosin because they are still plentiful and affordable. Still lots of parts too. I know it would be a "dog" to convert the bolt face though. I'd hate to buy a Mauser and then cannibalize it. Thanks for the help.

Buy a cheap, used 308, 270, or 30-06 etc, that somebody is selling. Then you'd have the right bolt. :-)

I have a MN converted to 500 S&W. The other cartridge that bolt will accommodate is the 378 Weatherby!

I have a MN converted to 500 S&W.

Is it a single shot or a repeater?

I've seen a few moisin bolts converted to take cartridges other than the 7.62x54r. What was done is to solder in a ring around the inside of the bolt face just smaller on the inside diameter to take the new cartridge. And you may have to remove the extractor while doing this. Then open up the top of the extractor hole near the face of the bolt after the ring is installed and cut for the extractor so as to allow it to grab the rim of the smaller case. Poster by the name of DirtyJim sometimes posts on the gunboards site and has done such conversions and posted pics showing the converted bolt face. Hope this made sense. Frank

Artful,
It's a single shot for now. I'd need to cut and weld some metal to allow it into the mag. Tinkering with it a bit, I'm convinced the interrupter would still work as advertised. Haven't decided yet whether that would be worth the effort to me. Then again, check out my sig. :-)
