j frame crane wobble when closed

i have a new smith airwieght j frame and when the cylinder is closed pushing on right side of cylinder will change the frame to crane gap by .008 . im new to double actions is this normal it still feels to wobble same when in full lock. i was worried because how i carry it pushes on the right side of cylinder revlative to the frame. could someone measure how much play their j frame has in this way. the crane itself at the hinge is tight it just looks like the ejector rod can wobble in the crane letting it move till it takes up the slack

Whew! I am no expert, but if I get what you are saying, that is too much play. All of my smiths will show a slight relief between crane and frame recess when pressed, but I doubt if any are as much as 2thou. I do think that you need S&W service.
