Stopped by three local gun stores today. Two had no powder-one had a pound of 4064 for 35 dollars. I passed on it, i have some. However, the guy behind me snatched it up.

4064 at Brownell's is around $25.00 a pound, Graf's also had it in stock a couple of days ago for the same price.
I think the 8 pound jug was around $165.00

Wow. Don't know the last time you got it for that but wholesale on it is now 20 and change. An 8 lb is 141 bucks..That was in August..It may be higher now..and availability is pretty rotten right now. The local Wally world had it a month ago for 24 bucks plus tax. And guys..I was in the local Cabela's(Billings Mt) and holy cow..they had primers. Lowest price was 39.99 others as high as 49.99. CCI Benchrest were higher. I do feel Cabela's kinda rapes us though. Luckily I have at least 40,000 Still no 22s

Our Walmart carries 4064, unique, varget, h4831, and a couple others I can't remember. Nearest cabellas had primers on sale for $30 per thousand a few weeks ago.

Just remember to add $10/pound if you order 4 pounds to your mail order price to cover shipping and the BS Haz-Mat charge. Powder at the LGSs is around $40/lb. With most powders at Powder Valley running $18-22/lb and the total shipping charges under $40 my break-even point is 2 pounds of powder. If I order 8 pounds the shipping is only $5/lb and if ordering with friend the shipping can become pretty insignificant. Powder and primers can be included in one haz-mat fee. Problem lately is enough powder and primers being available for a group purchase.

(Slightly OT rant) Primer and powder are handled no differently from coffee beans or books. We live in a semi-rural area of a small community and order a lot of items that we can't get locally. The UPS guy is at our house 2 to 4 times a week so should recognize our names. He carelessly left a Powder Valley shipment a quarter mile down the road on a neighbor's doorstep. So why do we have to pay the hazardous charge? Sorry- wrong question. We pay it because it's a corporate rule imposed by the carrier. The proper question would be "What do we get for the Haz-Mat fee?"

Imposed by the govt, not the carrier.

Not actually true..the carrier charges the fee. They also make requirements to be able to ship haz mats..That IS a gummit requirement. UPS makes you take a 2 day course(or did). Fed Ex used to do a watch the video each time you wanted to ship..don't know now as i quit doing haz mats. What a rip..27 dollars or whatever to ship powder. One poster was right..they handle it no differently. It's like the one day shipping UPS does on ghuns. The reason for that is the gun is handled for a shorter period of time. The problem they had before was Theft..as it was in the system longer for it to get stolen. Many were lost that way. No one got canned or locked up to my knowledge either.

ANY govt regulation has a fee one way or other. Yes the carrier imposes the fees, they have fees imposed on them through the regulations and insurance requirements.
