If so is it a good deal? Sure looks like it all may weigh 20 lbs...

I agree it looks like some pewter I was given that felt more like cast aluminum.

If you look at the water pitcher that is aluminum. If it is a set you can bet it is all aluminum. Pop them an email and ask for the hallmark on the back.

Or the weight.

You can see the mold part lines on the candlesticks! Usually indicative of cheap aluminum castings. Really looks like aluminum from here! That is the problem with on crapola. Only a "touchy-feely" will really tell you what it is. And the weight.......... as sqlbullet said above^^^^^^.

On-line buyer............ BEWARE!

Alright, here's another one:

Looks more like the pics of pewter I have seen. Assuming the tiles it is sitting are 12"x12" what do you think the bowl might weigh?

It looks like pewter but for the size I would guess 10oz maybe a pound if your lucky

Probably pewter...........but very pricey + shipping? Way to high.

Best place to get pewter is from the members on here!

I have NEVER found any pewter in junk store over the many years I have been prowling them. Only "collectable antiques" and priced accordingly.

No shipping, its a local ad. If I get up that way I might check it out. Probably offer $5 for it...

That's a 12x12 tile it's sitting on so the size of the bowl is 4-6". Figure 5-8 ounces. If you pay $5 that makes it $10-$15/lb.

Might as well just buy certified tin at that price.
I did the pewter thing awhile back. You don't get much for your money unless you practically steal it.

Definitely easier to just buy some tin. That way you know what you are getting.

Check goodwill/DAV/and other thrift stores that accept donations. Don't forget your local scrap yard too. I have almost filled up a 3rd 5 gallon bucket of pewter to melt down and I average paying around $2/lb for it.

I've bought 25 lbs or so of pewter and I average about $1.25 per lb. My mother scores a lot for me as well.
Last year I hit 8 or 9 junk shops on antique alley and found HUNDREDS of pewter pieces priced as though they were the queens set. In the last place we stopped for the day I bought 8 lbs for about a buck a pound when it was all said and done. One vendor had a bunch of dented ugly pewter. Got lucky.

I saw a ton of aluminum marked as pewter.

Goodwill here, has priced me out of the market. They want near new retail for junk.
The local consignment shops want top collectible price for everything. I'm tired of burning gas trying to save a buck.
Roto metals sells most anything you need at a reasonable price, and your done.
