I just received my 6 cavity 22 bator mold and a 457-340 mold from Midsouth. THe 457-340 is good as best I can tell. The lee 6 cavity bator has large burrs on each cavity from cutting. The mold blocks are about 0.005" from closing at the top, and the mold halves rock together.

Is this something I should try to fix. All six cavities have significant burrs. I'm just thinking about how much time it would take to try and "fix" this one, and the chances of me screwing it up in the process. Opinions welcome. I didn't expect the lee to come close to the NOE or MP molds that I have, but come on. Is this the best Lee can do?

Thinking about emailing lee first, but what does the collective experience of this forum say about this one.

Thanks, Brad

Lee will make it good. Give them a call.

I just emailed Lee with the above photos attached. I've had great luck with their warranty/customer service in the past.

You got a test piece there! That should have never made it thru any QC.

Someone missed the last 2 machine steps!!!!!!

They will make it right. Good folks.

Lee contacted me and told me to take it up with Midsouth. Emailed Midsouth and waiting on their response.

Update.

Midsouth is sending a call tag and will replace it, but they are out of stock now. Lee only makes these once or twice a year. Now I'll have to wait until the next run. I sure hope that they are cut correctly then. I was really looking forward to trying this one out this spring.

That's exactly what the last 2 cavity mold I got looked like. I just cleaned mine up but it ended up casting undersized and was a waste of my time. Oh well it's the only bad one I've got from them so far so I'm not too bothered by it.

Take an old toothbrush and run it over the cavities. Most of these burrs are easily removed this way. A popsicle stick will remove the thicker burrs. Use caution if you decide to try this as the venting lines are very fragile on the new molds.

You could call Andy Lee and explain the situation to him and hopefully he will take care of it. 602-673-3075.

Wow! You certainly got a nasty one there. While the one I got needed some fine touches to clean up, the burrs were nowhere as bad as on your mold.

Just received my replacement from Midsouth. They sent it out "on account ". I will be sending the old one back tomorrow with their shipping label. Glad I didn't have to wait months on one.
BTW the new one looks great. Just need to clean up the cavity edges a little as usual.

I received one from Midsouth a few weeks ago and it looked great, I haven't use it yet, but looks good.

WOW! I need to check the (6) cavity molds I just received a few weeks ago. The (2) cavity was very nice and worked quite well when I used it a few weeks ago.

I sold my old 22 Bators (2) & (6) cavity during the initial panic Spring 2013.

Thanks for this advice. I recently purchased a Lee 135 gr 270 mold and it had burrs at the gas check base. Using an old toothbursh and popsicle stick I think it is usable now.

Moulds should be better when new without having to resort to tooth brushes and popsicle sticks, c'mon man!
