My (little) 13 yo son killed his 6th deer of the year today. He shot a doe at about 100 yds with my Win 94 in .44 mag using a Williams peep sight. Filling out his tags. He is ready to get more doe tags now.

This was the first deer killed with the rifle and the first deer killed with the RD 285gr 44 group buy boolit. He hit the deer just behind the shoulder and it ran maybe 50 yards. There was minimal meat damage.

It was his first deer shot with a lever action and with iron sights. I have been carrying the rifle a lot this year and have not had a shot with it.

He may put down his .270 and start carrying it more.

Congrats to both of you. Nice looking gun and that boy looked pleased.

That's great. Just let it be his decision.

Both of you may just be surprised what interest develops. I actually did both for a long time working with long range stuff and still finding time for cast. So they can coexist.

My wife surprised me and asked me about learning to cast after she shot her 8 point. I am still debating though. This has positives AND negatives as it's currently a getaway and private time for me.

On the other hand, it is a low cost hobby for her as I already own the equipment and I could do more shooting.

Thats your LITTLE son? Would like to rent him out for the summer on a nice farm in the St Lawrence Valley? I could use a monster like that!

Good on both of you!

You can have him Bret but will have to feed him. He gets good mileage though. Only 1 gallon of milk per day.
