I have an old (1860's) .27 cal squirrel rifle that was my great grandfather's gun as a boy that I want to shoot. Any ideas where I can buy a .26 or .25 round ball mold?
Or even buy soft lead balls. I don't expect to shoot it a lot.

The smallest I see available, from a commercial source, are .283" There's a gent over in the UK that makes RB moulds but before that I'd put a WTB on the swap and sell.

Checked Hornady, Track, Buffalo, Dixie, Log Cabin

#2 buckshot is .270 according to a chart I just viewed. You may want to start there.

I think I used #4 buck shot in my Rocky Mtn Arms turret rifle in .22

The gent in the UK is Jeff Tanner: http://www.google.com/cse?cx=001951264366462437169%3Aggn3vg-bjum&ie=UTF-8&q=Jeff+Tanner+round+ball+molds&sa=Search#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=Jeff%20Tanner%20round%20ball%20molds&gsc.page=1 His product and service are excellent.

Not mine, but did see this mold on eBay. It's a 0.244 RB Lyman SC mold, and ends in a few hours...

.....that is what I would do to, keep watching the auction sites. Just because they aren't made now, they probably were in the past. It seems like I've seen every size possible out there.

http://buckshotmold.com/ Might try giving Sharpshooter USA a try as they make a# 3 buckshot mold that is .25.
That might work for you. Good Luck!!

Why not look at the Ballistic Products website and get the dimensions of all the various shot sizes. Pick the shot size that looks most likely to match your bore size, allowing for a patch around the ball. Next would be to order a small order (sample??) of that size shot, or buy or trade for a few shotshells loaded with that size shot. Break them down to salvage the shot and see how they work out in your rifle. There is no reason to break the bank for this project.

I have Hornady #2 buckshot if you want to try a sample. Regards, Woody

PS it makes a dandy rb load for a 25 acp!

I have an old Ideal mold for a 6mm ball. Probably about the same as was mentioned being on ebay. If your patching them it should be about right. I could if your interested make a few samples.
