Is anyone sizing their 38/357 boolits to .359? I have been playing with that for some months, and have fired a couple thousand rounds of both 38 and 357 from about four revolvers with boolits sized to .359.
I started doing it because I have a H&G roundnose mould, no. 39, that casts kind of big and boolits would deform too much when sized to .358. The larger die fixed the problem and I used it with other boolits. Seems to work well but I also think it causes more leading on the front of the cylinder sometimes. I am not sure of that yet though.
Anyway, just thought I would see what others are experiencing.

I use .360s in my .357 Max Handi rifle. Groove diameter is .358, but there is a rather generous diameter freebore that this larger size fits. Siza you boolits to fit you chamber mouths, end of story.

For dad old Colt I size .357
For other guns I go .358 - unsized at .362 and pan lube

I try to size the bullet to the chamber

Use what works

The S&W and Ruger revolvers get boolits sized @ .359". The Colt OMT won't fully chamber boolits that big--#358429's fat front drive band hangs up in the throats. Boolits at .358" fit snugly, and get the nod in the Colt.

My 38/357 boolits all get sized to 359; they chamber and shoot well in my guns. I have noticed a tendency for many guns of this caliber to have chambers on the large side--plus, the 359 slugs fit my brass nice and tight. Also, sizing effort is reduced, meaning less fatigue, deformation, and faster lube/sizing.

I size all plain base boolits shot in my Marlin 94C to .3595. I was shooting them as cast but I seemed to get a little better groups after sizing. The 358429 is my primary PB boolit in this rifle.

I use the .359" die for my LBT heavy bullet . It works well in the model 28 that I bought the mold for and real well in the Marlin carbine too . For other guns I've found as long as it fits , it doesn't hurt and seems to help some . For most of my other .38 molds I still use the .358 sizer because I use the star sizer with them .
