Should have known better then to expect the web site to work. Illinois announced that if you have your electronic fingerprints submitted you could apply today instead of waiting until Sunday the 5th. Went to the website and fought with it off an on all day just to sign on. Decided to wait until later in evening when traffic would be less and amazingly it started working. It allowed me to sign in and to fill out three pages of info. I started to get excited because I was about to apply for an ccw permit in a state that three years ago I would have bet would never allow it. Then I hit next and the &*%^%$ website froze. I should have known that the Chiraq pols would never allow it to be easy.
Has anybody been able to submit your application? Did the website freeze on the third page where you enter in your FOID and Drivers License number ? I guess I will just try again all weekend to see if I can get them submitted

I have heard the Chicago PD and Cook Co. High Sheriff are eagerly awaiting the introduction of CC to Cook Co.

Got bad info

This is wrong

It my understand all you can do is fill out application. It must be submitted on the 5th.
The red note your reading is written very poorly. I know that's a shocker for IL.
This information came from my CCW instructor. I cant submit mine. Its all saved for the 5th

Just tried again and no luck. As far as the high sheriff of Crook County he was dealt a setback by the State Police. He wanted to put in a blanket protest against anyone from Crook County so you would have to go the extra step of appearing before a board who would then decide if you get it or not. State Police said no you must file out a form for each and enter why that person is unqualified.
He is not a happy camper, he then tried to say he needed more then the 30 days allowed to check people out and he did not have access to all the databases he need to do a proper check. Once again the State Police said we got that covered all you need to do is protest the ones you know should not have a ccw due to factors not captured in the databases. Such as a lot of domestic abuse calls that did not result in an arrest or maybe calls involving mental problems where they calm the person down and don't arrest.

I'm interested in the total cost as an IL res.?
I've had my Ohio permit for some time only b.c. I travel North. Don't see much use for one in my area only 100 or so miles south of you, but for the most part i carry only b.c. of the area I'm in mostly woods and creek lines.

Good luck, guy! The country is watching.

Hoping for the day when CCWs are recognized everywhere like driver's licenses.

The way I ,and some other people I've talked to, see it is the CCW license will end up costing almost 500.00.
150 for the license
200 to 400 for the 16 hr classes
31.50 for electronic finger printing.
Gas & time for the classes.
Ammunition for classes.

I feel the state is going to make it as hard as possible to get the license so some people just won't bother with the hastle and decide not to get a license and not carry.

Not to start an argument, but I've been wondering about the poor people who really need a ccw license.
The older people on a fixed income, who aren't able to afford to move out of a crime area, or to get a ccw license.

My neighbor is in his 70s, he & his wife moved here from a town with high crime .
He said a bullet came through his front window and he said that was it, he decided to move.
He had to sell his house for a fraction of what it was worth because of the area it was in.
He lives here now and is quite happy, but as he said he lost a lot of money in selling his long time home.

Not everybody can afford 500 to get a license.
I'm one of the lucky ones who still has a job and can afford it, but I'm still going to wait till this summer to get it.

Im happy for you guys. Its about time. It is sad that its so expensive and as mentioned above the folks on fixed income cant afford this. I guess this is better than none. If I were a senior, I think I would just carry any way ! Arrest a 70yr old man for trying to protect himself or his wife and family ?

Well it happened.
Its Jan 5, the opening day to apply for a ccw.
We're suppose to get 10 inches of snow and a wind chill of about -10 today.

If I remember correctly Chicago's ex-mayor Daley (Or one of those other crooked IL politicians) said it would be a cold day in hell before Illinois got ccw.
Well it looks like it happened.

BBS70...good one. I might add the women in this state will suffer from the high cost of CC. I'm waiting until they get the bugs worked out. Hopefully, my local club will be offering training. My only worry is what the other states will do when Illinois will not reciprocate. I hold Utah CC and can carry in Wis and surrounding states. Wouldn't surprise me if they void my card after it expires in 5 years.

Anyone know if the training requirement for those who are applying for a NON - resident permit can be acquired out of state? Or will training for other states permits already in hand satisfy IL training requirements?

Bad Water Bill

Nothing but certified Illinois trainers will get you your last 8 hours of certified training.

Your DD214 will count for the other 8 hours or if you have NRA and ISP approved additional courses totaling the other 8 hours.

At the moment Illinois does NOT recognize ant other states CCW permit.

So far I have not heard of any classes being held for non residents.

Powder Burn

I just renewed my Utah and they said they have 0 plans of cancelling our non resident permits simply because of the way our politicians screwed the pooch.

I got some consideration on the cost from the state by being DAV,over 65 years but the biggest cost was the CC instructors.I think they charged a flat $100.00 for the class, but they the cost of a smoked link foe everyone and paid a deputy to come do the finger prints.

I belong to the Litchfield, IL sportsman club and Brittany shooting park.
The training at Litchfield is given by the local gun dealer and some of the Montgomery county sheriffs department .
The charge is 100 plus 10 for range fees for EACH of the 8 hr classes, total of $220.

Brittany shooting park instructor charges $100, OR if you're a member of the club you pay just $80 per class.

I remember Rosenthal saying a couple months ago in one of his town hall meetings that the state said the instructors could charge what ever they wanted to.
I've heard of people charging $200 per class.

There are quite a few instructors in and around chicagoland offering reduced rates to seniors and I believe vets as well.

And yes there are a few scam folks there as well.

A good place to check for instructors is

I'm not sure women in this state will suffer from the cost of getting a CCW license.
1/3 to 1/2 of the people I've seen at the ranges taking classes are women.

Personally I'm glad to see women going to the classes, they are taking the initiative to take control of their own lives.

Now all I gotta do is talk my wife of 44 years to go to class.

She said ,Jokingly, she would go if
The temp was no more or less than 76 degrees
Sun was out, but not too bright.
No wind, but MAYBE a slight breeze might be acceptable
A comfortable chair to sit on
And if she was in the mood for the class.

Truthfully I not sure if she was joking or not

Bring your blushing bride to IGOLD in March and leave her alone with the likes of Valinda and Mary Shepard for the parade.

Done deal.

Possibly your wife will find herself in the very front carrying one of the NEW banners and later demanding you get her to class this very week:bigsmyl2:

No I will not twist any arms to make it happen for 2 reasons.

Th girls are way better at that than you or I will ever be.

Mike (Valindas husband and best friend) is way bigger than I am.

Not being a puter geek a lot of STUFF goes over my head.

At IllinoisCarry.Com they have been discussing your problem and possibly the real reasons for EVERYONE experiencing the same problem.

For a year the staff here and I have suggested ALL Illinois residents should go there and join up (it is FREE) if you really want to know what is going on and what you can do to help, you should be a member there as well.

Just announced today since Oct 1 7200 people from Illinois have signed up for Obamacare. Since Dec 18th when ISP allowed instructors to apply for their permits (used as beta testers) to last Sunday over 11000 signed up for CCW. 4500 of the 11000 came on Sunday the first day when everyone can sign up. Sounds like freedom over socialism to me.

Sunday Ciraq Tribune quotes ISP saying 15000 applicants and over 13000 passed first review. Sounds like after 30 day objection period a large number of permits will be sent out. Come on 2/8/14 when they will start mailing them
