I have been looking to buy a good scale. Dont want anything electronic. Been using a RCBS 502 for a long time. Problem I have run into is what is being sold anymore. I had a 502 I bought back in early 90s, the beam went missing during a move, so bought a new 502. Still a metal base but much lighter construction than my old one. I would like a second scale, was considering a bigger 1010, but some of the reviews I saw. Dont know if its just the difference between a 20 yo scale and a new one or their quality is slipping? Or is a 505 enough of a step up from a 502? Look around on ebay for an older one?

1) Sorry--Lyman 1500
2) If you have to have a beam, RCBS 10-10. Don't like beams, but if I have to have a beam, it will have a thumb wheel and not a poise for the tens of a grain. The Lee Safety Scale and the balance you currently have are just as good, it is what you like.
3) Sorry--the universal answer: RCBS ChargeMaster

I have two 10-10s, and a 1966 bonanza beam.

I have used electrics, dont trust them, had to stop to let them recalibrate because my shop isnt the ideal temp range.

I load hot rounds, and will not cap a load that is 1/10 of a grain off.

The 10-10 is still the best scale out there period.

I guess thats was my question, some of the reviews for a NEW rcbs 10-10 scale were not very kind. Something along the line of not made by ohaus anymore and of questionable quality. I am not entirely happy with my new 505 vs my old one, just feels a bit flimsy.

No interest in an electronic one. The cheap ones are mostly junk, and many of the higher priced ones have plenty of bad reviews. I want a functioning scale not something that has to be babied and kept in a certain environment for it to be accurate, or one that will have to be sent back and fixed.

Have to agree about the 10-10 it is the most accurate of all. My old Ohaus is dead on.

Midway has 62 reviews at 4.3 stars which isn't bad. I will take the new one out of the box and check it. I am sure it is possible to get a bad one.Visually they look the same other than the finish. The new on is made in China.
RCBS stands behind stuff so I am no too worried about it.

I gave my old 505 to my son last year and bought a new 10-10 to replace it. Haven't had any problems with it to date.

I have a charge master too but I still hand trickle weigh Black, and I always check everything against the 10 10. I can load relatively fast with the 1010 because I have been doing it for years.

I have an older, green RCBS 1010 (made by Ohaus) scale I'll sell. It zeros nicely. Includes the check weight. The clear cover is missing, otherwise its in pretty nice shape. Pics available by text or email.

I'll consider any reasonable offers. OP has first refusal. I'll always trade for Dillon stuff.

PM offer to me, NOT in public please.

I read the same reviews on the new 1010s found a lightly used older one on ebay for a great price and I LOVE it I will never ever use digital scale for powder again

I picked up a 10-10 in a bunch of stuff I bought a while back. Sold most of the brass & boolits, got all my money back and a scale & lyman case trimmer [& some other stuff]for free.

Maybe RCBS had a bad run with the scales. I am sure if there were any major problems RCBS would have corrected it. If you can find an old scale that is great. I need to figure a way to redo the numbers on mine. They are getting worn and becoming a bit harder to see.

The Lyman Ohaus scale works well for me. I don't think you can go wrong with one of these.

I would avoid any digital scale.

I've been using the RCBS Charge Master Scale for about 6 or 7 years now and man I Love that thing . It's the only thing I use to throw a powder And shot charges . I use that 1500 scale to Weigh a LOT" different things in my loading room .

There expensive when you first buy the thing , but it sure work's well . I use it Quite a bit also , to weighing out shot & powder charges in my shotgun loads as well . Don't even use them stupid bottle's on my Mec loaders anymore , took um off both my loaders and through um away . Take's a little longer to do it like that , but I KNOW my shot and powder charges are PRETTY Darn Close that way , and that Charge Master" , beat's the Heck out of a slow beam scale . Never DID like using them things , way toooooo slow mainly to me anyhow . If my 1500 quite today , I'd order another one tomorrow , that's what I think anyhow of them thing's ....

It may not be top of the line but I had a RCBS 5-0-5 that was excellent. I gave it to friend that was starting to reload. Missed it so much I got another one. Both of those scales were excellent and always gave repeatable readings with any suitable check weight.

I did exactly the same thing. Last month I saw an Ohaus brand 505 for $30. I bought it. Now I have two. I am very happy witht he 505 scales. The RCBS digital scale sits in a drawer.

Redding here. 30 Years service so far without hitch---it's probably the last powder scale I'll ever buy.
