I need a replacement for my old Lyman 55 reservoir. Lyman's sight says they don't make the threaded ones anymore, which mine is.

Anybody know if the aluminum one for the 55 Classic black powder measure is threaded? Will it work on mine?

Also, they list a 7000 grain reservoir, anyone know if it'll work on an old threaded one?

I don't think Lyman makes any threaded reservoirs for the old 55s, but Buffalo Arms was making some brass 1 lb size reservoirs at one time... you might check with them.

McMaster-Carr sells polycarbonate tubing of the correct diameter. You can warm up the powder measure die body with a heat gun and self thread the new hopper into place. The threads are very shallow. It is actually very easy to do.

Thanks, guys. I'll look into both of those.

I have successfully used the warm up and thread the plastic cylinder method and carefully turning it into the measure base and forming threads as you go. Important to keep it straight, but relatively easy. You do not have to own a heat gun--sometimes a heat gun will get it too hot and makes it soft. I used a heat blanket used for bending PVC conduit, but I see no reason that a heat pad make for human use would not work fine.
