I was just given a Lyman 450 and some dies for it. Lyman I saw only has the directions for the newer 4500. Same thing? or is the 450 different? Anyway does anyone have the directions they could post so I can copy. Jim

jh45gun,
I've got a copy of Lyman's 71pg. Reloading and Cast Bullet Guide from 1989. It's got complete instructions and parts breakdowns for both the Old and New models of the 450.
E-mail me your address, and I'll get it out to you. You can copy what you want, and mail it back to me.

Jim, Lyman's web site has simple directions for the 4500 sizer. It is very similar to the 450, I think it's just the handle assembly that's different...Ray

So much for that direct link. The above link takes you to the Lyman page. At the top right go to "Casting" and click, now scroll down to the 4500 sizer. At the bottom hit the intructions button to bring up an Adobe Acrobat document...Ray

Morgan thanks for the info since I see that I can see if he local library has it or can get it that way you would not have to mail it. IF they do not or cannot get a copy I will sure take you up on that. Thanks. In fact I got to find them but I have a couple of older reloading manuals from lyman will check them too. Jim

at the bottm of the section i think, theres an updated handle kit avaible if you have the old bicycle handle.
give lyman a call if you need it .
once you update the handle its the same as a 4500 except the hole for the heater .

Yea its got the older style handle but does that matter? The guy I got it from said he loaded thousands of bullets with it. I do not understand that gas check attachment either as he said he never used one he just put the check on the base of the bullet and ran it down in the die.

the handle will be fine untill you want to (bump) boolits up a size, then itll get a little springy.
the GC seater just holds up the bottom punch so just the GC is installed ,some will say it gets the GC flatter or more square on the boolit, i use it to seat a GC then LLA lube, no sizing.

Thanks for the info. I am pretty impressed with this compared to the Lee set up I have been using now there is nothing wrong with the lee set up but I think this is a whole lot nicer and fast too and I tried seating the gas checks with out that added accessory and it worked just fine.

So what do you do to bump up bullets?

bumping is when you drop boolits at.451 & need .453, a good fitting top punch & pressure will ( bump ) it out to fit the sizing die .
thats when you come to appreciate the softer alloys!!!!!
ps i think (bumping )came from actually bumping or bouncing the handle to swage the boolit ????
one more thing look at the bottom of this page & order some carnauba red from LAR45 & youll never have to clean out the lube again !!!!

I won't need lube for quite a while I got 13 tubes of lube with the lubrisizer. And some gas checks too. :) Some Lyman/Ideal, Javelina, and RCBS.

Did you get a heater with the package? It is handy if you want to use hard lube. I got a Midway brand, but Lyman also makes one.

I have had a 450 for about 8-9 years and have sized about 15K bullets. It's still going strong.

No heater with it. I suppose that is good lube and I will give it some thought but I have used this type of lube before in some bullets I bought ( The Black Lube) and had no leading so I might as well use it up. What I got now is mostly dark brown or amber.
