I'm new to the forum, and many of my tools went w/ the wife. Can anyone give me ideas for removing & replacing barrels on SAA Revolvers? I never home mede tools before, but it's my only option now. Thanks guys

Properly supporting the frame is critical to avoid damaging (twisting) it.

There are aluminum wrenches with an exact match to the frame, but I used oak
and made a carefully fitted set of blocks for a vise for a FAL receiver and it worked
well. I think the same principle could work for you to hold the SAA frame in
a big vise. You will still need a large barrel wrench.

My barrel vise is a rectangle welded of pretty heavy angle iron. Dimensions are wide enough for an 8 ton hydraulic jack and tall enough for the same jack plus 5 " or so.
I have some oak blocks with a grove rasped in them. Sometimes I use lead shims and powdered rosin on military barrels. Modern stuff probably won't need it. Don't do like the old timers and stick a hammer handle thru the cylinder hole. With a rasp, a couple bolts and two pieces of sturdy wood you can make a clamp on the frame where the barrel screws in.
