Well got in the woods right at 0600 up the tree in my climber at 0620 and had one down at 0730 got back to the car at 0930. Yep it was all up hill going back but that's alright. She came out about 50yds from my tree stand and one shot and she was gone. She ran maybe 40yds, and the blood trail was good starting out but got thin fast she was making a loop going back to the trail. I found her laying next to a dead log. I hit her at the bottom of her neck the shot took out the top of her heart and exited about center the rib cage. I was using a Marlin BL in 30-30 and a Lee 150gr fn over 26gr of IMR 4198

Good afternoon and Congratulations !
That is a fine way to start out the year. One less corn cruncher to mess up a plastic grill but end up on a hot metal one. Good report and good reading.

Looks good, congrats!

We have an extended antlerless season that started today. I stayed on stand until a little after 0900 but man, it was cold and windy! I'll be back out there this weekend, I'd like to put a tag on two more this year if I can.

Ours goes to the end of the month. Then we still have another month of tree rat season.

Most excellent. Not too crowded at that time on New Year's Day I bet.

You got that right I was hunting on public lands and only seen two other trucks. It's just funny to me you the other two trucks were big 4x4s and me in my little red Chevy Cobalt. I guess you just need the fastest wiz bang and the the biggest 4x4 to kill these new age deer. Now don't get me wrong I love those 4x4 but I drive 56 mile one way to hunt and those big trucks just use too much gas for pocket book. It's good to be a hillbilly I'll put a deer in the trunk of a car in a heart beat.

Nice doe! Just put one just like her in the freezer so we both got 2014 off to a great start.
I drive just under 400 miles one way to hunt so I understand your advantage on the Cobalt. I haul a good bit of hunting, camping & cooking gear when I go and 4WD is often required on the six miles of private road to get to the ranch so I leave my car at home. I've hauled a doe home in the trunk of a VW Rabbit with two adult passengers and one youngster...and a couple of rifles & a weekend's worth of luggage. No idea how I did that, lol.

Just remember to pull the drain plug in the bottom so the blood can run out! Congrats on more meat for the freezer.
