Hello,
I recently made a trip to the local fun yard aka scrap yard and found some ingots that I am having trouble identifying what type of metal I found. The "mont" ingot weighs 3 pounds. It is broken in half, I did see a whole ingot while digging in the lead bin that I believe had "bell" or "bel" written on it. I melted down this mystery ingot and found that it melted in a lot less time than it takes to melt lead. I poured the mystery metal in a 9mm Lee .356 124gr mold, it dropped a 112gr bullet. A tin bullet from this same mold produced a bullet that weighed around 86gr. I preformed a specific gravity test, the SG came out to 9.8g which matched Bismuth on the SG chart I found on Google. Does anyone have experience with Bismuth or ever heard of this "Bell Mont" or "Bel Mont" ingot? Is Bismuth worth anything to anyone? I know that pewter & tin ingots go for $10-$18 per pound on eBay. Bismuth on the other hand is going for $25 per pound on eBay but there are maybe 4 listings. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/01/teqe7ude.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/01/uruzaqyh.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/01/edybevyn.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/01/6a3u8e4y.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/01/7uha8e4a.jpg

Its not pure bismuth. Bismuth makes huge crystals as it sets up.
Bismuth mixed with tin and other stuff can make something like that in the picture.

33/67 solder would be 9.59 SG. Monotype would be 9.6 or a little more
The sg test can be close but difficult to exact because of voids, fill out shrinkage , and casting temperatures.
It looks like the surface of eutectic solder. You can get some more guesses to narrow the option by hardness and melting point.

What sort of melt point?

good question..
high bismuth/tin content would/could have a melt point of 160-f or so.
they used to use alloys such as that for fire sprinklers before they went to the glass bulb type.
