I am new to bullet casting, and I just received my Lyman 4500. I assembled the handle, etc., but the heater element does not insert fully into the base. It sticks out about 1/2", and the rubber does not seal on the base. Is this normal, or is the hole not drilled deep enough for the element to insert completely?
Appreciate any help from someone with experience.
Picture below with heater element fully inserted into base of 4500.

Mine didn't initially slide all the way in. I pulled it back out, and looked in the hole: there were LOTS of metal shavings in there. Cleaned them out.
The heating element went in further, but not quite all the way.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually cleaned mine out too, but it is still sticking out about 1/2" as you can see in the picture.

Mine fit in all the way but wants to slide out as I'm using it. I've noticed though even with it 1/2 way out of the press it still heats up very good.

I cleaned the crud out of mine too, it just doesn't go all the way in so I didn't sweat it and it's doing just fine. I tightened the set screw enough to keep it on place and away we go... Cheers

I guess mine has the Universal base or it's older. It's a nearly square plate and the lubrisizer bolts to it. Haven't seen this version.

Take care
