Put together a stuck case remover kit.

I had a 30-06 case get badly stuck in a resizing die with the rim ripped off. I drilled and taped the case for a 1/4x28 and tried using a bolt to pull it out. It was so stuck that the newly tapped threads pulled right out of the brass! I then had to make a trip to the hardware store for a larger tap. Ended up going with 5/16x18 and it worked, the case is out. I now have the drill, tap, spacer, bolt, washer and nut stored together in a bag so I am ready for the next time. I need to look around for a small storage container for the kit, something a little nicer than the bag. I made the spacer from a 2.5" long piece of 1/2" copper pipe with an end cap soldered on.

A socket from the socket set makes for a good spacer. I've done that in a pinch.

Wow, that must have really been stuck; I have never had a stuck case that a 1/4-28 bolt wouldn't unstick.

I usually use a deepwell 3/8" drive socket for the spacer, 9/16 IIRC. The drill, tap, and bolt go in one of the plastic many drawer cabinets so I can hopefully find them the next time I need them.

I bought a kit, years ago. After seeing what was in it, I could have come up with the stuff. It came in a box the same size as a die box. You can buy die boxes, MTM makes 2 sizes of small storage boxes, and Walmart has dozens of plastic boxes in the cookware isle. Nice Kit! Lightman

When I needed a puller, I filed the dome of a carriage bolt, flat. Then I filed the rim to fit in the ram.
Tap the case, insert bolt into ram, screw the bolt into the threaded case.
If that should fail, upsize the carriage bolt.
