Hey guys,

For some reason I can't get the search feature to work... No idea what I'm doing wrong.

Anyways, looking to invest in a top quality mold!

http://noebulletmolds.com/NV/product_info.php?cPath=41&products_id=268

Looks nice, wondering... the 230 gr. weight is that solid or a HP weight? Would this be a good boolit for my 1911's as a solid also?

I've been shooting 200 swcs... having some feeding issues. Looking to invest in a better design, is this it?

Thanks

That should be a workable design. It's very similar in profile to my Accurate 45-230F - which is bang-on for weight - so I'm guessing that the solid will drop close to 230 grains.

BUT. . . from my experience with two of their HP/Solid molds, the listed weight seem to be an average.

My 429421 casts about 255 grains as a solid, and the HP's drop around 235. Listed weight for the mold is 245

The 358429 gives 173 as a solid, and IIRC, 160 as an HP - mold lists as 168.

My Accurate mold casts like greased eel boogers, and the boolits from it feed like greased eel boogers. Being so similar in profile, I would expect similar feeding characteristics from the NOE, though casting with the extra nose hardware will be a little more tedious. A straight solid mold is easier to cast with than an HP-optional mold running solid nose pins, so it really comes down to how bad you want hollowpoints as opposed to churning out the numbers.

once you get the hang of the hp mold its like casting, with well, greased eel boogers

The mold drops a 230 hollow point, solid If I remember is about a 245, got one but it's out in the COLD garage so am guessing at the weight on the solid.

I was more referring to casting with the molds set up for solids. The slugs sometimes stick by their noses to the pins, and you have to close with consideration for getting the pins back into the cavities. Nothing to the point of being irritating, but it does slow the process a bit. NOE and Accurate solid molds, OTOH, just dump out a constant rain of perfect slugs with minimal attention on your part. .45 ACP is a round I'm interested in QUANTITY for, and I'm pretty disinterested in trading penetration for expansion in that performance envelope. My NOEs are SWEET molds, but their HP format just doesn't jive with my personal 1911 philosophy.

The particular mold will be around 230-235 grains as a HP and should be around 250-260 grains as a solid. Mine is of the same design but made by a former mold maker and I'm at 235 grains and 260 grains with WW alloy. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?66230-453640&highlight=453640. Here is a thread with the large HP pins and I have some info down the page with some expansion pics.

I have that mould and YES the HP is 230gr and works great in my 1911.

Mine casts at 235 with 1/25 alloy. It is a great mold and the boolit functions in all my 45's just fine.

I have that mould, works great in the 1911. You won't regret buying it. Drops 231-232 with my mix.
Feeding issues may not necessarily get fixed just by changing boolits. Do other boolit designs function fine in your pistol?
