Hi team.

While away with the family on Christmas break I was lucky enough to get out on the farm and find some small game. I carried the Husqvarna .30-30 M35 on one outing and found a hare about 40m away. After missing it TWICE shooting over it's head, the animal ran on through the lucerne crop pausing at the fence then disappearing into the field beyond. I pursued and spotted a head spying me from under a thistle but the animal was wise and trotted off making the mistake of pausing at 75m and standing up. THWOP! Pretty happy with the shot.

Also tipped over some bunnies with my BRNO 581 .22RF

Seems several people have been slaying the rabbits lately and that first one is huge! Congrats, what was the bullet and load? Neat looking rifles, I don't think I have ever seen either one of those before.

That first one looks bigger than the jack rabbits that inhabit the western USA. Also didn't know that Husky made a rifle in 30-30. Thanks for posting!

Cool! Those Husqvarna single shot bolt actions always seemed so trim and graceful. Ought to be the perfect stalking rile. You don't see them real often in the states, are they common in New Zealand? You can't really go wrong with a .30-30.

That is beautiful scenery, by the way. You are a fortunate man to live there.

I've had domestic rabbits that big (Flemish Giant) but didn't know they got that big in the wild. It's not often you get a rabbit you can make steaks and chops out of.

Nice. Are those biguns any good to eat? That one would make a good meal if they are.

There are a few starting to pop up but not many. The M35 was made in .25-20, .32-20, .30-30 and believe it or not .45-70! Imagine that lil rifle in .45-70 leaping around!

Hares are dark meat and a lot like venison. Most folk couldn't not pick the difference.

One of those in .25-20 or .32-20 would be sweet. A .30-30 would be nice too.

I wish we had something that tatses like venison running around that I could hunt with a light rifle or shotgun all year long. Maybe I never had it cooked right, but I never have cared for rabbit. Squirrels taste much, much better to me.

I just looked at the Simpson Limited website, the have 2 Husky M25's in 32-20. Both are missing the extractors though.

Buy them! I made my extractor after the original broke. A piece of tool steel and a couple of careful hours on the grinder.....

Nice, but for that, I think I'll continue to keep an eye out for an old Savage Model 23B. I sure do like the looks and handling characteristics of these. I also like the octagon barrels on some.

Rather attractive rifle there, Jeff. Gotta love a 30-30 bolt gun. I've only seen one other Husky but couldn't tell you the model or even the chambering. One in 32-20 would be sweet too, pretty sure one in 45-70 would be a handful even with 1873 loads.

With rabbits that big, I can see why you were using the 30-30!

That's way bigger than any Jackelope I ever saw! That hare is nearly as big as the rifle.

Nope ... Texas Jackalopes still win... they have horns...
Having said that, I've seen Texas hill country deer brought to camp that were smaller than that hare... and a big difference is that it appears as though the hare acttually has some meat on it...

Here in southern CO we have jack rabbits big enough to put a saddle and a small child on.
