I have been finding a bunch of this brass lately. It different from other 9mm Luger brass I have run across before. If you look inside the case, there is a ridge where the brass is thicker. It is where some manufacturers put a crimp groove or knurl. Here is a picture of it.

Anyone run into this before? I am starting to load 9mm for a Browning Hi Power next week. Just want to make sure it is OK. I think it might raise the PSI a little as there will be less internal volume. I am going to be using the LEE 120 TC boolit and bullseye or 231 and Remington primers. I have not run a slug through the barrel yet to see what size I need. The Lee mold I have throws a 0.359" boolit. I have a 0.357" and a 0.358" sizer for my LAMII and homemade lube. The lube works well in my 308win so it should work in the 9mm.

Another ? for people that have Hi Powers. What has been your average bore sizes?

The step inside the case is to prevent bullet setback during feeding. Federal and Speer have been doing this with their .380 brass for a couple of years now. You'll just have to work up your load as usual, and not seat the bullet too deeply. If you seat past the step, the case will bulge, and probably not chamber.

Hope this helps.

The step on the inside of the Federal, Speer and Blazer .380 brass isn't as pronounced as the Ammoload 9x19 brass is. You have to look for it to see it, but once you get used to looking for the little step inside the case, they do stand out.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone found these cases to cause a problem? I just found one a few days ago and would hate to inspect the last 3 thousand round I made for ammoload headstamps

I found one of those sorting 9mm brass given to me to cut down to 9Mak. That insert does seriously reduce internal space. As high pressure 9mm is it would be a major problem even with moderate loads.

I remembered seeing a few of these cases when I did my last batch of 9mm. Didn't really think anything of it, then today got the chronograph out and looked at how fast they were going. These were all loaded on the same day, with the same primers, same powder, same bullet, same everything. I shot a few each of 4 headstamps...
RP - 1106, 1154, 1165
Win - 1147, 1171, 1151
FC - 1141, 1185, 1145
Ammoload - 1192, 1179

Maybe 30fps faster on average. These were not max loads btw.

There's a current thread on this and, yes, there appear to be some potential problems.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I would think that the starting loads would be OK, but one would have to work up from there though. I can see how these would increase chamber pressure.

Thanks for reminder ! Now I remember seeing a photo of one of these.
I bought 1000 , once fired cases from local range , inspected all for Berdan primers , forgot about these...didn't find one in the thousand I bought , just a few 380's and 38 super's , but do appreciate the reminder to look for these bad boys .
