I was bopping around the local gun stores today looking for any new guns or great deals.
I ran into a 2 cavity Lyman .451 round ball mold with handles.....
.... marked $20.
I snagged it. I think it's brand new. What do you guys think?

I may need that mold. That's what I think.

on a side note, anyone have experience with this mold? kind of wondering what diameter it will drop COWW at?
i'm hoping this will drop large enough to be used in my 625-4 for gallery loads.

Man you got took. That combo is barely worth $60.

Did he sell you some swampland too? :kidding:

I think you should have a lottery ticket in your pocket.

This shop has had more than its fair share of cool finds.
A couple of m dies for free.
Some safari land k frame speed loaders for $5 a piece.

Now I have my eyes set on an old 32 hand ejector on consignment. Been there a long time. He needs to call the owner to find out a price. I think it could be another steal. Woo hoo.

I load a 454 RB in 45 ACP, AR And Colt for revolver use. Bot sure how a 451 will do. Great find and an even better buy!!

Great deal Mike and great price. Singles sell for more than that alone. SO, where is this gun shop ....? Santa must of known you'd be in there.
As I just found out, the BP 44 cal revolvers use a .451 ball where as a " 45 "cal bp rifle uses a smaller .440 ball. Almost seems backwards. Learn something new on this site every time.

they cast around .452 on the seam and .453 on the sides.

good enough for me. i'm going to tumble lube some and mess around with some loads.
i'm going to load them in auto rim brass and use COW as a buffer to hopefully help ignition and consistent velocities.
i hope this works. if not i'll sell the mold off here, and keep the handles ; )

going to trade one of my custom knives for a 4 cavity 358495 and a 2 cavity 358091. woohoo. can't wait for some more molds!

The handles are worth that. Round ball molds themselves don't bring big money, but you certainly got your moneys worth.

That mould is designed for a .44 caliber black powder pistol. I happen to own one, so PLEASE let me know if you want to sell that mould. I'd give you twice what you paid and pay shipping on top of that.

I'd have bought it just for the handles! Great score!
