After a full day's development, final testing of my new round is complete. You can duplicate this yourself at home by replacing the broken extractor on your M1 Carbine, checking for for proper operation of all parts then test firing at the range of your choice. If you're successful, the firing pin will jam forward (for yet to be determined reasons) and create several full auto slam fires. The result will blow the bottom out of the magazine and spill the remaining rounds, causing a cease fire. In the meantime the slide will remove itself from the bolt causing both parts to rattle about merrily.
Fortunately, no one was hurt during this "development" and the parts that we examined were pretty astonishing. In the photo below it's obvious that the gun began firing cartridges before they were fully chambered and it actually functioned like this for about four rounds before the base blew out of one, which "disassembled" the 15 round magazine. I was actually able to reassemble it afterwards too!
I haven't disassembled the bolt yet, but I suspect the replacement extractor is somehow jamming the firing pin causing the slam fires. The disconnect is working correctly.
