I shot mine today with a 9 twist bolt gun... Did very nice with unique.... I think offhand it was 7.5 grains that i settled on after laddering around a bit...

It's all about the twist and how heavy the boolit is.

My suggestion would be to try a different powder next. I did a lot of experimenting with my 14" T/C Contender. This was all with the RCBS 22-055SP though. Red dot did OK, but for whatever reason I couldn't get a decent load with Unique. My best low end groups were with 3.5 gr of Titegroup. Best mid-range load was with 11 gr 5744. You just have to keep trying and you will find something that works. I have not tried the Bator boolit yet.

I believe its a relationship between twist and length more than weight. A 9 twist 22 barrel will theoretically stabilize just about any of the more common cast designs if they are kept at moderate to slower velocitys. YMMV. 22's are definitely fun and challenging and are a constant source for learning and experimentation.

You got that right telebasher... Twist is everything... That same load with my MIH 62 grain boolit is all over the place... The 62 gr is a lot longer boolit and my 9 twist just hates it.....

More the weight, the LESS twist is required and that becomes mandatory when the object being twisted is soft. ... felix

Do you tip the barrel up before each shot? My "patterns" improved when I did that even in the little 221 with Red Dot.

If your lube, alloy and fit will oblige, 18 gr of H335 may do well too.

917749177591776917779177891779here is what the Bator did for me today at 50yrds. this was a ladder test so each of these 5 groups had a slightly different charge. the conditions were good and I was bench resting

LOL! they are light charges of i4198 ranging from about 1600-1900fps. when i make it out to the reloading bench tomorrow, i'll look em up and be able to give a better description. the alloy is lyman #2, 45/45/10 tumble lube, and aluminum gas checks. the boolits were not sorted by weight and the cases were mixed headstamps. here is a pic of a group that i shot with a 40gr Vmax right after i got through with my Bator testing.91799

Twist is not your problem the MiHec 62 gr. bullet..
I can shoot 75 gr. Hornady A-max's in my 1:9 with MOA accuracy and they are way longer than the MiHec 62 gr. bullet..

For my CZ527 in 223 (1:12) and the 'old' Lee bator, I had success with red dot at 4gr. and below. I had started around 6gr and had patterns, as I worked lower, they tightened up. 4gr was the crossing point, where I'd got 3" groups at 100yd. 3.5 gr. was better, but still 2" groups (5 shot groups). IIRC, 4gr. of red dot chrono'd at 1600fps.

I have a Brno in 223, when I tried 62gr bullet's in it I couldn't keep 10 rds on paper at 10 yds. The one's that did hit,hit sideway's.
Just a couple grain's lighter charge then my 55gr bullet's, which I can use to put 5 bullet's into a dime at 100yds.

If weather clears next week, I have 7.5 Unique Old style Bators ready to go down range. I tried 8.0-9.0 last week @100Y and I think my shotgun would shot a better pattern:bigsmyl2:. I thinking way to fast on the ones last week (Lyman #4) bad guess?!
Didn't have Chrono with me but I am thinking 2100-2200 fps and with muffs on they sounded like 223 jaxketed, close! Savage 223 1/9 t.
