Hello there rabble, got a question for you all. What is your go to mould for .44 Rem Mag? Is it a wad cutter, semi wadcutter? Thanks for the help.

H&G 503, the original Keith 44 design. Honorable mention goes to the RCBS version 44-250K, in spite of its screwed up crimping groove. 429421... get back on the porch.

I am with Waco on this one... The lee C430-310 is my serious business mold, with 2nd place going to my all around fun RCBS 44-250K plane base mold.... Once i get myself situated with the Lyman 429649 all bets may be off then...

Depends on what I "go to" do!

Always loved the Lyman 429421 and am very pleased with the RCBS 44-250-K. I also use a lot of the Lee TL430-240-SWCs for 44 SPL and mid range magnum loads because it is a very good bullet for such and it comes in a 6 cavity mould:-D For serious hunting with top end magnum loads (1400+ fps in 6"+ barrels) I used to use a HP'd 429244. However that has been supplanted with the very fine 429460HP. I also shoot a few of the Lee 429-200-RFs in my .44s, particularly my 44-40 but most often use the TL 240 gr SWC in it.

If I had to walk out the door with just one mould in my hand for the 44 it would be the RCBS 44-250-K with the 429640HP hidden in another pocket..........

The Lee 310 WFN has worked better than needed in every gun I try it in. It'll fit and feed in lever guns and semi-autos and it's available cheaply in a 6 cavity mold.
I'm planning on buying another in the near future and mill out or ream out the gas check shank. It works well at 850-900 fps so I'd like to skip the GC for plinkers.

I have a 208 grain LEE, the MIHEC hollow base and Blammer's OWBM group buy of 429352 that I shoot a ton of. A co-worker freaks out people at his indoor range...black man shooting a Super Redhawk and putting big square edged holes in his targets.

Any keith based boolit. I will throw one out her no ones mentioned......no flaming please. I really shoot the noe version with the HP more than any. That sucker is accurate and deadly on deer. Course all my swc keith based are. I just like that HP.

It is good to hear this. I'm in the early stages of getting to know the 4-hole version of that mold, and am still not all that sure how much I'll actually use the HP option. Glad to know it's working well!

That's a loaded question ! There's no "Just one "really! Just one for this gun, that gun, the one in my pocket, one lee, one rcbs, one HP and the "ONE ON ORDER NOW " ! lol
429421, 429244... these one's !

Life is full of tough decisions and casting is full of two many tough molds. ONE OF EACH ! And that's my final answer !

I'm in the 429-421 camp. I prefer the Lymanized version for ease of casting, but I find no fault with those who demand an "original" Keith-type. I have a 4 cavity that I got in the early 90's that is one of my favorite molds period. Heat it up, add lead and watch the purdy boolits rain down. Would that every mold was as docile and easy to use.

I have a 5 cavity NOE 230 grain WC that I like a lot, but more for 44 Specials than for Magnums. 5 grains of Unique or 4 grains of Red Dot shoot very well out to 25 yards--haven't tried it further.

I use Accurate Molds 43-250K which is a Keith-type clone of others already mentioned. It works for me.

Thank you for the information fellas, I think I will start with the lyman 429421 and then work up from there. After all my birthday is in January, I may have to buy myself two molds. lol.

It all depends on what you are doing.

My .44 mag is a Marlin 1894 and it is microgroove with 1:38" twist.

I find that the H&G #503 shoots very well, though I had to do some mods to the gun get it to feed well.

The Mihec 434640 (Lyman 429640 clone) which is an RNFP feeds very slick and shoots well. It is up to 270 gr. in solid version.

My Accurate Molds #43-165B is a terrific little plinker and is also quite accurate (165 gr. TC design). Cheap on lead, cheap on powder and fun to shoot.

The first two also enjoy success in handguns as reported by others but I am not sure about my little 165 gr. One day I will load 'em up for a friend with a handgun and let 'er rip.

I doubt you would go wrong with a Lyman or NOE 429421, H&G #503 or the Lyman or Mihec 429640. All are proven designs and mid-weight boolits.

I will be using them in a 7.5" Ruger Redhawk, looking for about 240 grains (ish)

My go tos, in the 44 Mag. The 320-429 JDJ by NEI for heavy stuff, RCBS 44-250 SWC for light work. Both are extremely accurate in my Bisley's, and Wesson's, 1300+ fps with the JDJ, and 1400+ with the RCBS. Never needed to go hotter as the sweetspot gave the best accuracy. BHN 12 AC , HT to 18.

I've been trying out the 232gr version. It does drop an honest .433 if you need it big. So far it's been ok, nothing to write home about. I'll do some more with it.

I have owned a 44 magnum for over 30 years and cast since 93. I currently have a Redhawk and a 44 special Blackhawk. Since 93 I have had a 429421 at one time I had three. I have also had the Gordon Boser 429251?, 429244, 429215 and the Lee 310. I now have only the square groove 429421 and the Lee 310 and am not looking for anything else. [I forgot I have the 208 Lee WC but rarely use it].

429421? The top band was cut too thin on the original cherry. It was supposed to have been fixed but photos of later runs look the same.

429244 with a gas check. Deadly accurate out of my Super Blackhawk with 2400.

This is a great shooting and good looking 44 Special revolver. It is in the style of the Flattop Blackhawk in that it doesn't have the protective ears on the side of the rear sight. This gives it a cleaner smoother look. The overall size is that of the old model Blackhawk, smaller than the current new model Blackhawk. This is just the ticket if one is looking for a slightly small revolver than the Super Blackhawk and since one will be shooting 44 Specials, the smaller size should be fine for most people.

The only one I have is a Lyman 4 cavity 429421 I bought about 25 years ago. It out shoots me and does whatever I need doing with a 44. I thought it was a bad one as the sprue plate has all 4 sprues off center, but if it hurts the way it shoots, I don't shoot good enough to notice it.

For me it is the RCBS 240 gr semi wadcutter gas checks. I have used it for about thirty years and killer a dozen deer with it. Never lost one.It shoots accurately in my Redhawk.

Thinking back over many years of load development and testing I have found the Lyman 429421 to give me the tightest groups of all the 23 mold patterns I have, these from Lee, Lyman, Ohaus, RCBS, Lachmiller and H-G. There are individual molds for specific purposes that the 429421 cannot match, but these are narrow applications. If I were forced to reduce my inventory to one single mold, this is the one I would keep. Your needs may differ, so please shop accordingly.
