Darnit! Broke my lyman 450 handle @ the bolt pivot point!

Honestly i was using it to size, lube and seat gas checks on 429244 44 mag boolits. Alloy not super hard (bhn22), the mold casts right @ .430, not shaving any lead off when sizing to .429. I dont know, perhaps just its time. Seems to me it must have been a regular problem or lyman would'nt have made the upgraded handle assembly.

I have both style handles and like the old bicycle grip sheet metal handle better. More ergonomic for me. If mine ever breaks, I'll get it welded and put a gusset on it such that it won't happen again.

been there done that. I too broke mine. Cast metal. I don't remember what I was sizing. Ordered one online. It took about a month for it to come to my door. I remember how much it stunk. Sorry man. If i had one extra lying around i'd ship it to you.

The update kit will make it into a 4500.

Not a very exclusive club! I welded mine back with a reinforcing
bar of heavier steel. Haven't had any problems since. Flimsy design,
the RCBS redesign is a lot stronger.
Is the 4500 linkage beefed up?
No need for those diamond hard boolits that I can find for pistols, at least.

I've got two 450s...and have broken the handle of both. The oldest...my very first lubrisizer...was 'upgraded' to the 4500-style handle while the other was welded. Might make a good members' survey..."Have you ever broken the handle of your Lyman 450? And, if so, how many have you broken?"
