Has anyone had any experience with either the Hornady or the RCBS bullet feeder dies and cast boolits? Will either work with cast boolits?

Thanks

The wax lube makes a mess of the dies and the collators.

I have the Hornady bullet feeder dies and now lube with PC. Problem solved as long as you size correctly.

Of the two, the Hornady have steel internals and can be modified fairly easily to accept cast boolits. The RCBS have plastic internals and don't stand up well to modification. The Hornady can be bought as individual dies and you can add an appropriate sized plastic tube to get a 100 boolit feeder without a collator. To buy the RCBS, you have to buy their collator, an expensive proposition for something that is mostly for jacketed bullets. Last I knew though, RCBS did offer rifle bullet feed dies, but before I bought their setup, I'd go with a Mr. Bullet Feeder, as it's a much more robust system and works like it ought.

Hope this helps,

I use the Hornady feeder die with my homemade collator. Die feeds cast bullets just fine with no modification but my collator didn't like the cast and tumble lubed bullets. So, I was using bullet tubes made from 1/2" CPVC pipe. Then I decided to try PC'ing and problem solved! Collator works like a champ now, and no more cleaning bullet feeder, seater and crimper dies. BTW, that's 45 acp, 200 gr. SWC from a Lee six cavity mold. I've got a 9mm feeder die coming.

Your experience makes me wonder if it is just a manufacturing tolerance thing or if they opened up the feeder dies to handle cast boolits as time went on. My feeder dies were bought fairly early when they first came out and were just too tight to pass the larger diameters of cast boolits. A bit of polishing with sandpaper on a dowel rod took care of that easily though. I don't think the mod took me 20 minutes a 45acp die before I had them running through it correctly. I'm using a .452 H&G #68 if I remember right. Been a long while since I loaded .45acp.

I saw the video on yootube and fully expected to have to do the dremel thing to the collets but my .452 sized bullets worked perfectly. I will get the odd one not drop but it only happens maybe 1 in 50 or so. I have the Mr. Bulletfeeder die on the way. I like the design and am anxious to give it a try although it is twice the price of the Hornady.

you'll love the mrbulletfeeder drop die. l have 3. (9/380) (40/10mm) (45). Heck, they feed alox if ya alcohol em clean once in a while. I moved to coated bullets months ago.

My MBF drop die dropping 380 coated bullets. Yea that press, l had to save for.

I use GSI's for cast, with good results.

Nice! I'm really looking forward to getting my MrB die. I ordered the 45. I really like the Mr Bulletfeeder but just can't justify spending $500 delivered. I reload for fun and shoot so I can reload. :-) I like the KISS design he started out with so mine is pretty much like it. Using the Hornady dies in 45 and 9mm. Works like a champ and I've got about $40 in it not counting the 2 dies. I refined my bullet feeder plates a bit and now they feed anything just fine. But, I still like the PC'ing. Clean loading, clean shooting. Going to try the MrB die when it comes in. I'm sure I'll spring for the 9mm then too. Just sux that the shipping was over half the cost of the die. That die cost me more than my hornady die and collator combined. BUT....if I had $500 burning a hole in my pocket I would jump all over the MrB system. Very nicely done.

Well for those that are interested on Collator and Boolit feeder and also the die for the 223, I humbly invite all to check my videos of my project on You Tube, called " 223 Automatic Bullet Feeder PROJECT "Collator & Die" any one can make a search and see my projects my work and my products,

I manufacture the Happytrigger 223 swaging die set, all my dies are made by hand and one at the time, I hope to find people that enjoy my work.

Looks like it works.

The way the KISS feeders set the bullet on top is by letting the mass of the entire stack tamp the bullet into the case mouth but only letting one come out at a time.
