I always check out the 24 hr lead graph at the top of this forum and today was the first time I remember it being over a buck a pound. When was the last time this happened?

it's been awhile , iirc it was when silver was hovering around $30-33 an oz. i think it got up to around 1.10-1.20 something but please dont quote me on that as i've slept since then ( several times in fact lolz ) usually it follows the umm more precious metal trends albeit not quite so expensive , take copper for instance when it drops in value lead usually isnt far behind in also losing value etc

Nyrstar USA put that into your search engine and you will find out Doe Run was not and is not the only lead smelter in the US.Nyrstar is located in Florida.

From the Kitco site, lead peaked at about $1.30 a lb in about April of 2011. It's a bargain now!

I'm confused about what w5Pv says about Nyrstar. It doesn't have any lead smelters in the US and is headquartered out of Switzerland. It does have some zinc mines in TN and a zinc smelter to process their mines concentrates. There is a lead smelter in Australia however. The company is primarily a zinc producer.

That is what I found too when I looked at the company website.

Doe run was a primary smelter taking raw ore from the ground and making lead from it all others are re refining lead from scrap

Yes, Nyrstar is an international conglomerate with mining concessions. Their US mining operations are in Tennessee, with the product being zinc. Their nearest lead operations are in Myra Falls, Canada, where the lead is a secondary product, and, 4 other sites in central and south america. The lead mining at all of those sites was a secondary product. Doe Run was a PRIMARY Source company. That's the big difference. And for those who say it doesn't make a difference because of the recycling, there is no such thing as 100% recycling. There is a loss with each processing. Without fresh imput, there is no way to keep the supply at 100%. But, I guess we can always buy from Nystar, or the chinese to get what we need, as long as they will accept the bankrupt US Dollar.
