Winchester, cira 1908
25-20 caliber
looks to be a re-blue, bore is excellent. I am not a collector but a shooter so I don't care about re-blue. Cost was about 800 beans

Oh that is a beauty. I've always wanted a 25-20 but never have found one i could afford. I'm betting that it shoots as good as it looks. Let us know after you've shot it.

Awesome. I would have gladly paid that for that rifle, if I had the money to spare at the time.

Enjoy. Love both the sights. Maybe one day, I'll get to set up a 30-30 like that.

I have the same tangent sight on my 38-55 barrel as you have. Have spent quite some time working on the load for mine that will zero the rear sight at 100 yards. No adjustment for elevation in the rear other than the slider. As I understand it, with the ladder down, rifle should zero @100. Slider flipped up and the cross bar all the way at the base = 150 yards. After that, the scale on the sight applies. Lots of work into the zero so far, and in the end I find I was exactly backwards. Because the blade in the front sight is replaceable, I'm working up loads for mine to my FPS goal first. ( 1600-1700 with a 265gr. cast gas check ) Then with a new front blade in place, slowly file the front sight until you get your zero @ 100 yards. Depends on what you are going to do with yours. And I see you also have a nice tang sight as well. Reason for my post is to point out the removable front sight blade held in place with a cross pin. Mine measures .060 thick. Might add to helping with loading when the time comes.

Nice find, good investment.
You'll not loose money on that one if properly used with care.

Great rifle and well worth the 800 beans!

This might help with the ladder sight. I converted one to make it adjustable

Hope it helps!

That is a lovely rifle, probably last another 100 years with a bit of care.

I have a 25/20, been rebarrelled, reblued and D&T'd for a receiver sight. Shoots awesome. I would love a tang sight for it. I gave a guy at the range a mag full and he wanted to know how much they were new and who was selling them, he was so wrapped in it. The look on his face when I told him it was made in 1908 was something I won't forget in a hurry.

We get the short end of the stick gun wise in Australia, but we do get 1892s cheap. Mine cost under half of that. They are starting to get expensive as dealers realise what they are selling for in the states.

When the new gun laws came out in 1996, there was a glut of them on the market here as people who weren't prepared to get the rifles registered sold them to gun shops. Hardly go into a gun shop in Australia where you don't see one on the shelf.

Awesome bunny blasters, those 25-20's. My uncle had one when I was a kid. He had a buddy that loaded cast loads for him and we could always seem to find grandma something to put in the pot. Yours is a beauty, enjoy it.
