View Full Version : How About a Group Buy for Custom Round Ball - Part Two

Well my original idea for custom round ball mold was based on ignorance. As was pointed out, the Lee Precision mold maxes out at .690" (actually .689"). So my question, is, what would be the perfect max size for a wad/sabot. .680? I'm still liking the idea of a custom mold for around $40.00.

"Round ball molds require the use of a carbide ball to create it. These items are expensive, and is reflected in the prices for custom round ball molds. Round Ball mold diameters of .690 and below is a $175 setup fee in addition to the regular mold price."

So that adds $5.83 to the cost of the mold, $26.00, if we get 30 orders. Then and there is shipping to and the Honcho and from the Honcho, so figure $40.00. That is a good price for a mold of the best possible size for a sabot/wad.

What is the best possible size under these circumstances? If it is .715" or .678" I'd just get a Lyman for around $75.00 delivered. But if it is another size, I could two custom Lee molds, in the exact size I need/want, for the same price.

Wait my Brother John, I just read your last line, do not by any chance get the .715" RB mold, you will be far better served by the .678" RB and its going to cost over $100 with those expensive Lyman Handles.

Since you are a proud owner of a rifled nitro express barrel why not skip the above and just get the Lyman 525 slug in wad mold for $100+ or I can ship you my .678" RB and Lyman 525 slug in wad and you cast a few hundred and then ship them back, cost, offer me a cup of coffee!

What are brother's for.

Wishing you and your family the very best in Health, Wealth and Prosperity for the coming years.

Best regards,
Ajay Madan

Love you Brothers. I have some good news I will post later, just want to get my facts straight. Lee Precision will not make a multiple cavity round ball over .600" But I did get some good/great news that hope we can all support and make it happen. How about multi-cavity, around 5 cavities, in both .680" and .732" That will be nice and at a very, very good price.

Merry Christmas to my Elite Brotherhood Group of Slug shooters.

Lee is one company that gives us top quality molds at the very cheapest possible prices and that too complete molds, not just mold blocks that you can't use unless you shell out another $35 plus shipping for the handles.

Their RB molds are not unlike others .006 out of round. He replaced it with one that was a little better - but still .004 out of round.

They are constantly trying very hard to improve the quality for us by hiring only the smartest of Eng. to make good things happen.

You see the difference there, look at the thickness of the steel plate carefully!

We need Lee's support in offering us the best bang for the prices, lets be sure to keep them in business for we need them.
Another great company that gives us the Lee molds for $17 to 18 for a two cavity molds is MidSouth Shooters, their prices on powders as well as Mec loaders are great too.

$20.00 for a good round ball mold is an incredible deal. Ajay's graphics are always excellent. God Bless Lee Precision and Ajay for that matter.

I am with Ajay on the "new" style lee molds, as it is much easier to cast with the new style. I have the new Lee style in .690 RB (casts .686 with air cooled WW lead). Now if the weather would warm up a few degrees and the wind stop blowing I will see how the 69cal RBs work in my Tracker II shorty.

That (5) cavity RB mould will drain my ten pound pot in a big hurry.

Hello Brother BikerBeans, Here is a good Lyman Big Dipper Casting Furnace 110 Volt for $35 and its capacity is 10 lbs, they are $53 to 55 on E-Bay
http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000152800350

Hello Acguy45, you are right, I am wrong, its a 10 lbs but looks big, I had to walk to it to verify it. I'm sorry about that!

I have 4 different casting furnaces and this is the best, the bottom pour are like leaky faucets and I have two that leak like hell even if I attach a vise grip to add additional weight to stop it from leaking, its a mess.

Hello Brother JmorTimer, that 20 lbs furnace is good as you will definitely need it for multi cavity mold.

Best regards,
Ajay Madan
