Anybody know what this critter might be?...

I don’t know if it actually a handgun that is “real” or a cap gun…

The tube shown in the pic comes out of the bottom like a magazine in a semi-handgun…

The top has two access holes…

Made in Germany…

Any thoughts?...

Thanks…BCB

Just looked at the post and sorry for the one pic that didn't get sized down...

Just a wild guess, if the "tube" has a spring pushing the ball looking "follower" (is it spring loaded?), it might be something like a bb gun. Fill the handgrip with bb's, or whatever size balls that would fit, then insert the tube to put some pressure on the bb's. Pull the trigger to launch the bb's.

Can it be made to function?...

Is ammo(?) available to load into the magazine?...

Or is it just a paper weight?...

Thanks...BCB

The magazine holds six 6mm blanks, or flares, & tear gas.

Search: Gerstenberger & Eberwein Starter Pistol for lots of info.
.

Thanks...

I have been looking on the Net and I see several types, but I haven't found the one with a magazine yet...

Sure wish I could find the left-side grip plate too...

I have onwned this dang thing for 20 years or so and just got it out yesterday during a cleaning up process...

Might be nice to just put it all in original form and maybe be able to shoot it...

I know they "ain't worth nothing", but they are neat now that I look at it a bit closer...

Thanks all...BCB

The "magazine" is a piece that holds the itty bitty cartridges, that look for all the world like really big shotgun primers in a way. It's tee shaped, like the opening in the top of the cap pistol. It looks like one just sold on Auction Arms for about $25.00.

I just went to Auction Arms and did a search for the Gerstenberger & Eberwein Starter Pistol and didn't find anything...

But, I really don't have much success with search on any site or anywhere for that matter...

I am now interested and would like to get this little flipper in original condition...

Thanks...BCB

Those were sold back in the 50' and 60's as a tear gas gun in the backs of magazines like True Detective, Argosy, Adventure and the like. One of my boyhood friends mother had one. His dad was a truck driver and bought it for "protection" for his wife while he was on the road.
Do not fire it in a crowded garage with the doors shut--Just saying.[smilie=1:
