For the $$ ya can`t beat the Lee 20# bottom pour !!

It`ll handle all needs up to what the home caster will need.

Lee 4-20 bottom pour. Great pot. I have 2 of them. Heat up fast and do a very good job for the low price!

Just do NOT smelt dirty filthy WW's or crapola lead in one. Use an old CI pot over a gas turkey fryer for the filthy melting/fluxing into ingots!

When you decide you want to expand you can always either pass it on to someone you are mentoring OR sell it on our site.

I started on a gas ring and a ladle(Salvation Army, equipment budget of about $12!)
I used my lee pro 4 #20 melter last week for the first time and I was just amazed. So fast and clean, easy control of the temp, bottom pour is so controllable. It's the only way to travel.

if budget allows lee 4-20 bottom pour all the way.. it will make life much easier on the learning curve .. if you can afford it a RCBS Pro MELT a huge step up .. always do unclean lead melting (smelting) in something else and melt clean lead to pour bullets from the bottom pour

Took your advice and got the Lee pot . I thank everyone for their recomendation and tips but will refrain from asking for opinion , need to study the threads and decide on my own knowing it's not right to burden others . The pot looks great , foaming at the mouth to melt some lead ! LOL , thanks !

It's been a while for me and I did have a couple of Saeco bottom pours but when I started I used to use a large black iron skillet and set it on a one burner hot plate and I used a ladle. It worked very well. It also didn't suffer from the one drawback of the bottom pours and that is that when an ingot got added one had to stop till the lead got back up to temp.

On my Lee 4-20, I rest a Lyman ingot on the rim of the pot, one each on opposite sides. As the pot gets low enough to add one, I slip it in and replace it, alternating sides so the hottest ingot goes into the melt. Using this method, I can cast continuously until I tire of it. The large volume of molten metal vs the small differential in temperature of the addition means no waiting for the pot to come back to temperature. One more reason to keep your ingots relatively small.

Lee 4-20, hands down the best buy in a casting pot.
