A few months back I bought a Contender and the barrels seem to be breeding. I am up to 7 now and can no longer fit them into a double sided pistol case. Most of the barrels are scoped.

How are you Contender and Encore guys storing them? I really dont want multiple cases unless I have to. There must be something out there?

I keep mine in the bottom of the gun safe, wrapped in a small towel in the space left under the rifle stocks.

Buy MTM pistol holders. They are $4 each and mount to a wall. I have mine all that way.

I don't like storing in cases long term. Too much risk of rusting with no air flow.

I guess I forgot everyone doesnt live in the desert like I do, 20 percent humidity is a bad day. It would be nice if I could find something that will store all the barrels at home and be able to just pick it up and take it to the range.

The way I take my scoped barrels to the range is in my Dillon range bag, I just slide my barrels into the padded side sleeves meant for carrying handguns.

It would be nice to have a wrap up case like a sleeve of wrenches that roll up and tie. With pockets and padding it should work slick. I will see what my wife can do to design something.

Mine hang from pegboard in my gunsafe.

So what calibers do you have barrels for?
I use one like this
http://www.planomolding.com/images/products/feature_108030_Open.jpg
http://www.planomolding.com/product.php?BCCID=118&PID=877
it's long enough for Super 14 barrels across the width.
two layers so bottom gets scoped barrels on side flipping barrels end for end so they nest.

If you seriously need more than that. Think Rolling Trunk

Interior Dimensions (L x W x D): 27.7" x 20.98" x 15.5" (70.3 x 53.3 x 39.4 cm)

Here's a link to some reasonably priced cases...

I picked up one of those cheap metal sided tool boxes at Home Depot added a couple small compartments and lined with foam then more foam between barrels. It holds nine and can hold more but none of mine are scoped. I would imagine with scopes you could get at least five inside with an extra frame (or three)and grip (or two) . It is a tragedy to see someone of normally fine character get the T/C disease.

You've got to be careful storing with foam as it attracts moisture.
I've got several barrels laying next to each other on a shelf but I've seen somewhere a homebuilt cradle of sorts, it's a rectangle made with 1x2 oak sitting on its edge, on the two longer sections one side has half moon cutouts with corresponding notches on the opposite side, felt covers the cutouts, the barrel sits on the half circle with the lug sitting in the square notch, they are far apart to keep the barrels from touching each other and are held upright.
It looks like a pretty slick way to store the barrels, I'll be making one and it appears that it uses less space than laying them on their side as I do now.

Greetings
I store all my firearms the same. Remove wood. Rub all metal with motor oil. Wrap tight in wax paper and masking tape it closed. Label tape what is inside. All goes into a plastic lined wood box.
Have done this for 28 years now and never a speck of rust stored in East Central ILLinois. Last time up I unwrapped a caliber 7.62x51 Israeli barreled 1916 Mauser that was wrapped in 1998. No rust and the motor oil had penetrated and cleaned the barrel inside of all residue.
I do my molds the same. They keep just fine.

I tend to just kinda throw them where ever I can, but those big double rifle cases are nice.

Foam isn't a problem even in the climate of the PacNW if you are in and out of the case switching barrels as often as I do. Everything gets several wipedowns with an oily rag per year. It is what Contender addicts do sorry to say.

spray the foam with a little gun oil and wipe off the excess and you don't have an issue in rainy Oregon but in Dusty Arizona not so go - but the plus is I don't have to worry about rust much.

And when you want to take multiple barrel out in the field, what do you do?

My wife is working at a fabric store. One yard of cotton duck by 56" wide is $10.99. I think a person could sew some pockets for scoped barrels and fold the bottom up and the top down, roll it ends in, then in half and put some handles on it. Should cost some time and $15.

I don't know if it's my iPad or their site, but their photos don't come up for me. I've always ordered directly from their site. I have a LOT of these, for my revolvers, rifles, actions, barrels, long flintlocks, and traditional bows. THEY WORK. I especially like the 13" or so socks for handguns for my barrels, which are all 10". You can find others for the longer barrels. A phone call to them can be useful. Some places like Midway carry them, but not all their products. Highly recommended to keep things rust and scratch free in storage.

I never store things in a gun case. Never.

I have 60 plus custom cases made by liberty sports 3148650155 ask for Tyler. The have made several types for rifle and pistol barrels. I tried several other ideas and these worked best. The will make a 5" by 20" with padding zipper and 2" Web handle for $7 if you buy 10 at a time. Can store them on safe shelf lined up like books. If I get any more I will find out how much to sew a pocket with clear window put info in. Currently I use a cable tie with tag that I label with a code number.

I put mine in old tube socks. Then slide them in between the verticle long gun barrels in my safe.

I store mine in small silicone coated gun socks, I have a mechanic’s rolling tool chest. Be very careful, the frames are well known for breeding and multiplying, it’s not just the barrels!! Ask me how I know. Tim

I spray the outside of an old sock, turn it inside out and slide a barrel into it. Been doing that with Handguns too, for almost 50yrs.

Use Ballistol, best thing ever.
